Annual Profections are an astrology technique that I implement when doing my Solar Return and Annual Transits reading that I offer. My course on transits started last week and since this technique gets a class all to itself in the course, this felt like an appropriate time to do this post. Also, I’ve been going through my website over the past few months (fixing SEO stuff and other things), and I noticed there were some SEO problems with the original blog post I wrote on this topic in January 2020. So I’m fixing those issues now and adding in new things not mentioned before. **Also, the algorithm is fucking annoying (I could go off about that bullshit hahahaha but I’ll spare you), and likes “new posts.”

What even are annual profections and the time lord? Essentially, starting from the Ascendant in the natal chart, each house of the chart represents a specific year of life (and depending on how old you are turning on your next birthday will show you what “House Year” or annual profection year you’re about to enter into). Here is a drawing to quickly show you what annual profection year you’re currently in or are about to enter into at the top of this page.
I’ll use myself as an example here to help all this make sense. In November of 2023 I turned 36 and entered a 1st House protection year. This causes things having to do with my sense of self (and other 1st House areas of life) to be very important this year (since the 1st House is the house that deals with the sense of self). My Ascendant and 1st House are in Sagittarius which makes self understanding and belief highlighted (Sagittarius energy expresses itself through “understanding” and through “beliefs”…among other ways). Now, the time lord comes into play 🙂 and the time lord is the planetary ruler of the profection year house you happen to be in. Since I’m in a 1st House year (and I have Sagittarius on the cusp of the 1st House), this makes Jupiter my time lord (since Jupiter is the planetary ruler of Sagittarius). Below is a table of planetary rulership:

Table of planetary rulership (which is necessary to know what time lord you are dealing with)
Just to throw this out there – I use dual rulership (lol why the fuck not?!). There are astrologers that feel like only using traditional rulership with annual profections and the time lord is what one should do. I think to leave the modern ruler out of this technique is to leave out a dynamic that shouldn’t be left out. On the flip side of that if you only use modern rulership with this technique, the time lord in transit won’t do as much/make as many different aspect with natal planets throughout the year (since modern rulership involves the outer planets that don’t move as quickly). To leave out the traditional rulership feels like a dynamic gets left out that shouldn’t be left out.
After you figure out what planet (or planets) is/are your time lord(s) for the year, the next thing you want to look is WHERE that time lord planet is in your chart. The house that the time lord falls in your chart will bring that house into the equation (meaning that house’s “areas of life” become important that year like the annual protection house). For instance, I have my Jupiter in the 4th House in Aries. So not only are 1st House areas of life (like sense of self, etc.) important this year, but so are 4th House areas of life (like home, family, private spheres of life, etc.). When looking at the time lord for the year you want to consider what the time lord planet is doing in the natal chart. Is it retrograde or direct? Is it out of bounds? What aspects does it make to other planets in the chart (those aspects WILL be highlighted this year)? Things that I would consider along with Jupiter’s sign and house as the time lord would be the fact that it’s retrograde (meaning this year might have a retrograde-y flavor) and the aspects that it makes in the chart (like the trine it makes to my Ascendant and the square it makes to my Moon). All of these things, and other things not mentioned that Jupiter is doing in my chart, will be lit up this year.
There are trends and themes that can occur over and over again when looking at this stuff. For instance, every time that I have been in a 1st House profection year I have moved. This is a theme and a thing that happened when I was 0 (I don’t remember it, but it happened), when I was 12, when I was 24, and now again at 36. Why would moving each of these years make sense? Because my sense of self was impacted in some way by these moves (1st House profection year), and the move gave me a new home base (4th House). **Side note: this one of the reasons that I feel like my chart works best in Placidus, Porphyry or a house system that puts my Jupiter in the 4th House (there are many reasons, but this is one of them). It’s actually through looking for themes and things like this through annual profections and the time lord that might help you to figure out what house system makes sense for you to use.
I encourage you to go through your chart and figure out what annual profection year you are in this year. Then look and see where the time lord (or time lords) are by sign, house, aspects made and planet condition. Once you’ve done that think back to what you remember about the last time you were in that annual profection year and the planetary ruler was your time lord; what themes and things were going on for you then? Are those same kinds of themes and things going on for you now?
How to read annual profections and the time lord in practice (my opinion) – you want to look at what the time lord is doing in transit AND what transit planets are making aspects with the time lord in the natal chart. Planets in transit that make an aspect to the time lord(s) in the natal chart are usually felt strongly for the year that the planet is the time lord. The time lord in transit is also important to take note of, and what aspects it is making with natal planets (these will also be felt strongly). If the time lord in transit turns retrograde, this will probably be felt in an exaggerated way (for better or worse, lol). I take note of planets that happen to transit the annual profection house in a way I might not always notice. For instance, Mars transiting the 7th House (not making any aspect to a natal planet) might not always catch my attention (I have found that a planet just transiting a house without making an aspect to a natal planet may or may not be felt much by the native). However, if the person is in a 7th House profection year and/or if Mars is their time lord for the year, this causes Mars transiting the 7th House to become more important and will definitely catch my attention.
You can even apply this technique to the solar return chart, though modified slightly. I don’t look for the time lord or annual profections in the Solar Return Chart, but I DO look to see what the time lord from the natal chart is doing IN the solar return chart. I will take note of anything going on in the annual profection year from the natal chart in the solar return chart (for instance, since I’m in a 1st House profection year in my natal chart, the 1st House of my solar return chart is something I looked at even more closely). By throwing annual profections and the time lord into the mix with the solar return chart, it add another layer of depth to the reading.
When I see this old picture of myself from a middle school yearbook, I think to myself “have you seen this girl?” I haven’t seen her in fucking years. I think some of her is getting flipped back “on” now, because of solar arc Pluto (just through the lens of a 34 year old rather than a 13 year old)

I have wanted to do a blog post about this for a while, and each time I start it, I stop myself. Do I really want to expose ALL of what I’m about to expose? Probably not (and I might take this down as fast as I post it, lol). However, since I’m in the throes of Solar Arc Pluto conjunct my Ascendant currently, it feels like the “right” time to further work through a bunch of shit that happened to me 20 years ago when Transit Pluto was conjunct my Ascendant, and how there are echoes of this part of my life in the present day. This isn’t strictly an exercise for my own benefit, though – I’m hoping that other people will benefit from this post in some way, and in seeing the trends and themes that can come back around through an astrological lens. I really hope that this blog post encourages you to go through your own life cycles via transits and solar arcs. There is a lot to be learned from these. **I actually do this kind of work for my clients, too – making sense of cycles that they go through via an astrological lens (and even making sense, from an astrological lens, of the things they’ve gone through and the things that they carry). If you should ever need any help with this, dear reader, I’m your girl ^_^and you can have me do that for you here.
First, some technical terms before I start this exposition expedition: Astrological Transits: The actual motion and placement of the planets in the sky at any given time. How transits impact each individual person depends on what the planets in transit are activating (or making contact with) in a person’s natal chart. Solar Arcs: An astrological predictive technique which, essentially, moves each planet 1-degree a year ahead of where it falls in the natal chart. For instance, my natal Pluto is at 10-degrees 46 minutes Scorpio. Since I am almost 35 years old, and my Ascendant is at 15-degrees 59 minutes Sagittarius, Solar Arc Pluto has now moved about 35-degrees from it’s natal placement TO my natal Ascendant. -Solar Arc Planets, especially when conjunctions to the natal angles happen, tend to point towards actual events taking place. Same thing can be said about the Solar Arc angles making contact with natal planets and angles. **Side note: A lot of people who work with Solar Arcs only focus on 1 degree to 30-minutes of a Solar Arc planet contacting a natal planet (applying and separating). While I don’t disagree that the closer the Solar Arc planet (or angle) is to being in an exact aspect with the natal planet or angle the more impact the Solar Arc will have, I actually extend the orb out further – 2-degrees applying and separating. The reason for this is because you can usually see and feel the ripples of the Solar Arcs brewing before the Solar Arc planet or angle contacts a natal planet or angle within 30-minutes. **Another side note: Solar Arcs really do fucking work. For example, when I started my astrology practice, I had the Solar Arc Midheaven damn near conjunct my natal Mars, and Mars is the planetary ruler of my North Node (and ever since I started my Astrology practice, I have always had this feeling that I am doing EXACTLY what I’m supposed to be doing with my life). Solar Arc Mars was also damn near exactly conjunct my natal Sun, too.
The chart below is of the transits to my natal chart in January 2002. We have to start with the past for this whole idea about cycles to make sense.
Transits to my chart on January 2002, right around the time transit Pluto crossed my Ascendant for the first time; the other it times it crossed after going Rx and direct (Pluto bullshit things) were on June 18, 2002 (Rx motion), and on October 30, 2002 (direct motion)
The year 2002 was a terrible year (there is very little that was positive that I can say about it). It started off with a bang – a friend’s father ended his life which was shitty (this particular friend who lost her dad meant the fucking world to me). This same friend of mine who meant the fucking world to me had a good friend that didn’t like me and my friend being friends. The friend of my friend, and her mother, decided to make it their life’s crusade to ruin me (I know that sounds dramatic as fuck, but that is how it felt). This mother took it upon herself to contact all of the parents of all of my friends, my teachers, even the school administration, to let them know I was “doing drugs” and “having sex.” {Side note – I hadn’t had sex of any kind by that point in time, and I hadn’t yet tried any drugs.} While none of that bullshit was true, it was deeply hurtful, confusing, and extremely embarrassing. I had teachers pull me out of class to ask me about “my drug usage” and about my non-existent sex life that they thought existed (some of my teachers meant well and were concerned, some of them decided to take the ‘shame and scold’ approach). Because of all of this, I lost most of my friends (most of my friends parent’s believed this woman’s lies about me and didn’t want their kids hanging out with me). A switch inside of me kind of flipped into what feels like the “off” position around the time transit Pluto crossed my Ascendant (probably because of Transit Pluto doing what it was doing to my natal chart, along with all the other shit that was going on with this transit). This switch never really flipped back into the “on” position.
It was around the time that this switch in me flipped into the “off” position (this switch flipping off was probably out of some kind of self-preservation) that I started dating my first “serious” boyfriend. The relationship started off fine (the first 8 months or so that we dated were awesome). It was once we entered high school that he drastically changed into some kind of fucking demon. The abuse and bullshit started out as mentally and emotionally mind fucking me three ways from Sunday. A few examples of this were him making me think he was going to break up with me for one of my “friends,” and playing the hot and cold game where some days he would act like I didn’t exist and treat me like absolute shit, and other days I seemed to do no wrong and hung the fucking moon. It wasn’t until November 2, 2002 that the actual physical abuse started (this was right around the time Transit Pluto crossed my Ascendant for the last time). We were at the movies (in a sparsely crowded theater) sitting behind the last row of seats. He wanted me to play with his dick or some stupid shit, and I didn’t want to do that in public. He didn’t like my response, so he decided to choke me. I don’t know how long it went on for….30 seconds? A minute? I remember it caught me completely by surprise and it felt like an eternity while it was happening. And you know how I fucking responded to this shit? I fucking stayed around. I had already been beaten down SO MUCH throughout that year in various different ways that any concept of self-worth had been completely extinguished. So, I stayed….and it was all downhill from there. The sexual abuse started in 2003, and further downhill it all went. “When I tell you to open your legs, you open them.” Gross. I’ll spare you further details, but you get the point. By the spring of 2003, my self-worth was so low that when he pulled a knife on me and held it to my throat, I told him to “just fucking pull it.” I remember it took him by surprise that I reacted this way (he had done similar awful shit before, and I had been scared of it and reacted in a scared way). This time, since I guess I didn’t give him the reaction he wanted or was looking for, he put the knife down. This became my way of fighting back. **I’d like to think about it as my way of fighting back, anyway. In reality, I may have actually been okay with being taken out of the game at that period in my life. That’s the most depressing part to come to terms with.
This shit went on, on and off, until early February of 2004. Interestingly enough, this is around the time that transit Pluto was pretty much done being tightly conjunct my Ascendant. It was also around the time that I found out that on top of all the other shit he had done to me, he decided to fuck around with another girl (and this was actually the straw that broke the camel’s back).
**From a retrospective lens, there was also a whole bunch of karmic shit going on with transits to my skipped steps (Venus/Uranus and Chiron) when transit Pluto started crossing my Ascendant (which makes me think there was something I wanted and needed to learn from these life experiences….as difficult as it might be for me to swallow that notion). There were also other transits going on throughout this period of time, too, that stand out (but I will spare you from looking at a whole slew of charts).
I will show you one more chart, though: The chart of my Solar Arcs to my natal chart for July 2022 (below):

You might be wondering how any of this ties into the present day (and why I would go off on some kind of something or another about all of that shit)? Because there are some key themes that have come into play 20 years later, that have come “back around” in the last couple of years as Solar Arc Pluto has inched closer to my Ascendant (and you have to know the context of those themes from 20 years ago to know why they matter fuck all now).
Some of these echoes are: 1. There was recently a suicide in my extended family in June 2022. Weirdly enough, the same area where this person took their life is located where a bunch of the physical and sexual abuse occurred 20 years prior. This area now has a whole new layer of trauma surrounding it. The land around there needs to be salted or some shit. **There was also another suicide shortly after Solar Arc Pluto started its conjunction with my natal Ascendant (this was my friend Matthew who took his life in 2020). Also, weirdly enough, when do you think I met Matthew? When transit Pluto was conjunct my natal Ascendant 20 fucking years ago (in May of 2002). 2. There were certainly issues with a different overbearing mother early when Solar Arc Pluto started to conjunct my Ascendant, but I don’t really want to give that difficult human being any more attention here. Point is, the overbearing mother theme came around again. 3. Relationship shit shows that made me question who the fuck I am (different kind of shit show than 20 years ago…but still, a shit show). The divorce between myself and my ex-husband has been the biggest personal life change to occur during this Solar Arc. Out of respect for our son, I won’t go into details other than to say the person I thought I was married to was NOT who I thought he was at all. I found this out in the first part of 2020 as Solar Arc Pluto started applying with my natal Ascendant within 2-degrees. **This took a long time for me to fully process and come to terms with (which has happened over the past couple of years).And Goddamn, it was painful. 4. The feelings of exile and isolation have come back around. This is kind of weird for me because I’m not really someone who needs to have someone up my ass or me up their ass in real life in any kind of relational capacity (I’m pretty “low maintenance” that way). I will say this, though – most everyone that I am close with (outside of family) doesn’t live anywhere near where I am, and sometimes you actually want to be IN someone’s presence. You don’t even HAVE to fucking do anything with them (we could fucking sit in silence for all I care….it’s just being in the physical presence of people that you know really love you and care for you and you love and care for them – that’s what matters). This was something that I lacked throughout Transit Pluto conjunct the Ascendant, and it’s been thrown in my fucking face by the universe that this is lacking now, too. 5. Me having to ask myself the question “when is enough, enough?”
There are a few distinct differences between Transit Pluto crossing the Ascendant 20 years ago and Solar Arc Pluto conjunct the Ascendant now: 1. There have been a few instances where it has felt like there has been a proverbial knife at my throat (thank God no literal ones this time!) …..except this time around, 20 years later, I’m not telling anyone or anything to “just fucking pull it.” 2. I actually HAVE people in my life that I love and that love me back. Even if they are far away, this does exist for me. There is also a sense of community in a bunch of different ways that was lacking for a long time in my life, and was definitely lacking 20 years ago (but is definitely not lacking anymore). **Side note – To anyone in my life right now (or has been on the ride with me over the past couple of years) – I am so eternally grateful for you. 3. Not dealing with the trauma in destructive ways. Fuck that shit. 4. I felt totally and completely silenced 20 years ago. I’m not silencing myself now. Fuck that shit, too. 5. Even though the past couple of years have been really hard in so many ways, they have also been some of the best years of my life. I know that sounds weird, but there has been SO MUCH good over the last couple of years. The notion of so much good did NOT exist in tandem with all of the shit 20 years ago. 6. It has felt like, weirdly enough, over the course of Solar Arc Pluto conjunct my natal Ascendant, that the switch that got turned “off” 20 years ago is finally flipping back into the “on” position. Watch out world, lol, I’m coming for you.
Midpoints! A very important astrological concept and one that is not talked about as frequently as they should be. So I am here to talk about them now, hahaha. A midpoint is essentially the equal distance between two planets (or celestial bodies). You can take the midpoint from planets that are aspecting one another in a chart, or planets that don’t aspect one another. Midpoints can be used either way.
How to actually calculate the midpoints for any planet/celestial body aspect? You can either use a computer generated program, or you can do them by hand. You will need to turn the degrees to the 360 degree zodiac first. The 360 degree zodiac is as follows: Aries: 0 to 30 degrees Taurus: 30 to 60 degrees. Gemini: 60 to 90 degrees. Cancer: 90 to 120 degrees Leo: 120 to 150 degrees Virgo: 150 to 180 degrees Libra: 180 to 210 degrees Scorpio: 210 to 240 degrees Sagittarius: 240 to 270 degrees Capricorn: 270 to 300 degrees Aquarius: 300 to 330 degrees Pisces: 330 to 360 degrees
So, this is my chart above. I have the Sun and Moon Circled in Yellow. The software I’m using (Astro Gold) is able to pull midpoints, but a lot of them don’t seem to be able to do this. If I wanted to find this midpoint by hand, I would have done this: ——–Turn 1 Sagittarius 45 to 241 Sagittarius 45 ——–Turn 16 Capricorn 03 to 286 Capricorn 03 Then you add them together (adding the degrees and the minutes separately): ——-Degrees: 241 + 286 = 527 ——-Minutes: 45 + 03 = 48 Then you divide the degrees & minutes by two: ——527/2 = 263.5 which translates to 23 degrees Sagittarius ——48/2 = 24 minutes Then you add in the .5 + .24 (which is the minutes) and you get .78. Translate this to degrees and it looks like 1.18. Then you add: ——23 degrees Sagittarius + 1.18 and you get 24 Sagittarius 18 minutes. **Really, you don’t even have to mess with the “minutes” part of all of this and can focus solely on the degrees. If you didn’t mess with the degrees here, you would get 23 Sagittarius 30 as the Sun/Moon Midpoint. It just depends how precise you want to be.** ***Sometimes the midpoints don’t come out completely clean like that after dividing by 2. For example, if you have your Sun at 12 degrees 00 Aries and your Moon at 24 Pisces 00, this would change them to 12 Aries 00 and 354 Pisces 00. Added together you get 366, and when diving by 2 you get 183. Now, 183 translates to 3 degrees Libra which is clearly NOT the midpoint between a Sun in Aries and Moon in Pisces. However, look to its opposition on the other end of the Axis, which is 3 degrees Aries….which absolutely IS the midpoint.
You can literally calculate the midpoint for any planets, whether or not they make an aspect. When calculating them between planets that form no aspect, the midpoint just shows where these two planetary energies meet one another halfway. For example, say your Venus and Jupiter formed no aspect, but you wanted to know where the midpoint was anyway. Finding that midpoint could show a place in our chart where we have the ability to expand (Jupiter) upon our love (Venus)..or any other Venus and Jupiter expressions. Any planets that happen to aspect the midpoint (especially the conjunction) would flavor the midpoint further. For example, say the Venus/Jupiter Midpoint was within 1° of the Moon. This might create a scenario where your emotional core (your Moon) is a vehicle to be able to expand upon the love that the Midpoint between Venus and Jupiter offers.
I think that Midpoints are most useful when looking at the midpoints not just between random planets, but planets that actually aspect one another. They show the place where the energy between the two planets is “met halfway,” either via frustration (as with the challenging aspects) or harmony (as with the easier aspects). Challenging aspects spur growth, so the midpoint of a challenging aspect (like the square) can show how and where to release the tension from the aspect. On the flip side, harmonious aspects can show where we can become lazy (like with the trine), and the midpoint of the trine might show us how to best battle that should it be an issue for the native. —Personally, I think they’re most important when looking at the challenging aspects, the square, the opposition and the quincunx. This midpoint can help to show where and how (by house and sign) to release the tension from the square aspect, making them easier to deal with over all. For the opposition, the midpoint can show how and where we stop going back and forth between the two planets by sign and house. For the quincunx aspect, the midpoint can be the place where the planets actually are able to “see” one another. This is important for the quincunx aspect because the planets in this aspect don’t understand or see one another easily. The Midpoint gives them a way to “see.”
Some of the most important midpoints in the chart to look at generally are the the Sun/Moon Midpoint and the Ascendant/Midheaven Midpoint. The Sun/Moon Midpoint shows where the masculine & the feminine/the life force & the emotional core come together in our chart and “marry” one another. The Ascendant/Midheaven Midpoint shows where our natural sense of self & the highest and most idealized form of ourselves come together and “marry” one another, and how we are able to reconcile that struggle (and it *usually* is a struggle). As far as the your own individual chart goes, you will want to look at the two midpoints mentioned above, but also pay close attention to the square, opposition and quincunx aspects and their midpoints.
When trying to figure out what a Midpoint means, think about the energy of the planets in question. For example, with the midpoint between Moon and Pluto, you would be looking at the merging of the emotions (Moon) and intensity (Pluto)…along with other Moon & Pluto expressions. For Mars and Uranus, you would be looking at the merging of one’s drive (Mars) & liberation (Uranus)…along with other Mars & Uranus expressions.

Lilith is a common thing to come up in readings (people often have questions about her). Not only that though, but I’m constantly seeing questions about Lilith on the different forums that I creep on & answer questions. “How does she affect my life?” “What does it mean to have Lilith in Libra in the 6th House?” “What does it mean that she’s in conjunction with my Midheaven?” “Does having Lilith in the 8th make me a fucked up bitch?” These are just a few examples of questions that I’ve either received myself or just seen posted different places. I think before you can really understand HOW Lilith affects your life by placement in the natal chart, it is important to not only understand who Lilith was, but also to make sure that you know which Lilith you’re talking about. There are actually four Lilith’s that can be pulled in a chart:
-Asteroid Lilith – No. 1181 -Black Moon Lilith (mean) – this is what comes up when you choose the Lilith option on astro.com -Black Moon Lilith (true) – h13 -Dark Moon Lilith/Waldemath’s Moon – h58
So, if you use Astro.com at all to create charts, Black Moon Lilith (mean) is probably the version of Lilith that you are most familiar with (since it’s the one that comes up when you look for Lilith under “additional objects”). Also, this is the version of Lilith that is commonly used when looking at charts and talking about Lilith. Both Black Moon Lilith’s (mean and true) aren’t actual objects in the sky, but they are the apogee of the Moon’s orbit…meaning this is the place in the Moon’s orbit that is furthest from the Earth. The difference between the mean and true Black Moon Lilith (BML) is mean BLM is taken from an average and the true BML is the actual calculation of the apogee of the Moon’s orbit. This sort of empty-void-hypothetical-point is a place where one can do “good” or do “bad.” They can take Lilith’s intuitive and psychic energy and use to it to connect to “the other side” (and connect that other side to themselves) in a positive way, or in a negative way.
As far as the story of Lilith goes, supposedly she was created from the earth to be the wife of Adam (at the same time as Adam), before Eve. Adam wanted Lilith to be submissive to him, specifically sexually, and wanted to fuck her with him on top, and only him on top. Lilith wasn’t having any of this bullshit; she wanted the relationship to be more equal in nature and wanted to fuck in various different positions. Adam didn’t like this (and I guess God didn’t like it much, either) because it is said that she either grew some wings and flew away from that paradise prison, or that she was cast out by God for being a disobedient bad girl towards Adam. Her job was to be Adam’s bitch, and she didn’t want to play ball. It is at this point, once she is either cast out of the Garden of Eden or chooses to leave on her own, that she turns to the darker side of things (such as hooking up with and fucking some demons and having demon babies which are then killed, turning into a snake, and actually killing children). Or so the mythology says depending on what version you read. Who really knows? I DO think she gets a bad rep though (she probably doesn’t usually mind this). While I believe her energy absolutely can manifest in more challenging ways in one’s natal chart (such as obsession and the “darker” sides of sex), I also believe that she can represent wild and uninhibited freedom and/or sexuality from oppression. This isn’t a bad thing for a person to embrace, it just depends on how it is embraced. She represents the sort of “nasty woman” energy (or whatever you want to call it) that more patriarchal societies don’t want to see in their countrywomen….and if they actually had their way, would probably try and do away with completely. But that’s another rant for another time.
*As far as how Black Moon Lilith might express herself, you will find below some ideas about how Black Moon Lilith might express herself in Libra through Pisces (some ideas for Aries through Virgo are in this post). This is will only show the HOW of how she expresses herself through the sign in question. You will also need to look at the house your BML falls in to know WHERE/WHAT AREA OF LIFE she expresses herself through, as well as taking into account any aspects that she makes in your chart.*
Black Moon Lilith in Libra: BML is all about expressing herself wildly & independently, but in the sign of Libra, there could be some difficulty in merging these qualities with Libra’s need for balance, harmony, and partnerships. These people are very adapt at getting what they want through diplomatic means, but it usually isn’t just for the sake of diplomacy on it’s own and more self-serving (though she is good at hiding this). They can also out-charm just about anyone. In personal relationships, which are important to her here in Libra, sex can be all consuming in both thought and action, which can then make these partnerships feel a little lopsided. Being physically attractive (whatever that is to the person), feeling physically attractive, and presenting yourself a certain way are important to her here….but Lilith has more depth to her than this superficial shit and will eventually rebel against Libra if she isn’t allowed to express herself. Swinging the scales so far into the superficial realms to try and keep Lilith under control will only backfire here. She needs to be able to really express herself, and through partnerships this is extremely important. Acknowledge your darker side and desires, learn to make piece with them (and not just tolerate them), so it doesn’t come busting out, causing a bunch of disharmony and strife. The way that this manifests in her life will depend on the house that Lilith falls in along with aspects that she makes.
Black Moon Lilith in Scorpio: BML here in Scorpio needs to be able to express her sexuality (which may or may not be of the different and/or “darker” sort of variety, but it is definitely “heavy”), along with being able to transcend, evolve, and have deep emotional experiences. Sex is important to her here, but she will fully embrace this side of herself recognizing that it is just a natural part of who she is. Having intense emotional experiences are also important to Lilith here; she will take things/her feelings to extremes (to the limit) in order to have these intense and deep experiences. What type of experiences she’s driven to have here will be better understood by house placement and any aspects she makes. She will be driven towards the taboo and the intense, though some of the things she gets herself into may not always be the healthiest or safest situations (especially on the more extreme ends of this spectrum). There are also themes of power and control that she wants to transcend beyond, but this may prove difficult. This power and control could have to do with her needing to hold on to her own power tightly, or having power and control over others (especially sexually/in relationships). She may also have the tendency to attract others that operate the same way (which may or may not be a good thing). You will need to learn to let go of some of that need for control. Besides all of that, there is something sort of magical about this placement, with the person having the natural inclination towards “magic” (however you want to think of that). In this placement, it really is a toss up as to how she will use to her powers.
Black Moon Lilith in Sagittarius: BML in Sagittarius needs to be able to roam, expand her mind, and to explore in a wild and uninhibited way. She also needs to be allowed to BELIEVE in things in the same way (and to have something to believe in). The issue here is WHAT is chosen as a belief here and treated as dogma. This one has the ability to become quite rigid in their personal dogma once they have formulated it, and this could be anything of the philosophical/spiritual/metaphysical variety (and may actively expand on this belief even if it has been flat out disproven). Actually, it could even be the complete absence of any sort of belief in anything that could also be the case here, such as someone who doesn’t believe in the “rule of law” and just goes around breaking the law for shits and giggles (and I bring up the concept of “law” specifically since Sagittarius does naturally rule over this). As far as sex goes, this one wants to have a good time and expand on these carnal delights and probably doesn’t think that too much is “right” or “wrong” in this regard (this one tends not to be repressed sexually, unless their personal dogma goes against sex in some way….which….it usually doesn’t). Really, you can think of her as Dr. Goodtimes, but sometimes these “goodtimes” can be taken to excess, or be a detriment to her and/or other people. Freedom is a big deal with her here in Sagittarius, and the less personal freedom that she feels she has to explore, to expand, and to roam, the more likely the negative traits will come out to play. How she will express herself in Sagittarius will, of course, have a lot to do with everything else going on in the chart.
Black Moon Lilith in Capricorn: BML in Capricorn really has a firm grasp on her own sense of authority and actually does need this to function well. Some might even use the term “cold hard bitch” to describe this placement, for this one doesn’t play games (she’s not really a cold hard bitch, but she does play one on TV). She’s actually more emotional than she would ever really let on, but somewhere along her life she learns that it’s for the best that you push your emotions to the side in the more public spheres of life. Maybe she was fucked around one too many times in this regard and/or taken advantage of. So she learned to adjust and really lean in to her own sense of personal authority. While this placement can actually go really far in life, this aspect can also become a sort of autocrat wanting absolute dominion over all of her subjects. How she chooses to use this personal authority will depend on the house that she falls in and the aspects that are made. As far as sex goes, what goes on here in this regard could be completely restricted, such as she feels like there are better and more important things to focus on than fucking for fun (or for any reason). It’s this very sexual repression that could swing her in direction of the more autocratic ways of wielding authority. If she isn’t sexually repressed, she’s probably more of a dominant type. Hand Lilith here a whip (or ties, chains, etc)…she’ll easily know what to do.
Black Moon Lilith in Aquarius: BML in Aquarius has always seemed sort of awkward to me. While she isn’t repressed in regards to her sexuality, she doesn’t tend to do the “feeling” thing as well on a personal level, and can come off as more mechanical in nature. Sex for her may be to specifically try out something new or bizarre, for the sake of the new and the bizarre. Sex is also probably a fluid thing, and since Aquarius is more androgynous by nature, she probably is more likely than some other BML placements to not care as much about the sex/gender of the people she bones. She will probably have some pretty far out and electric hopes and wishes, forcing her to either stay more inside her head and watch them play out, or actually try and bring these to fruition in real life. If she chooses the later path, she can end up being a revolutionary of sorts in her own right. If she ends up down this path, she could end up with people following her lead (even if she didn’t ask to be put in this position). What matters is how she handles all of this, which would be shown by taking the entire chart into consideration. Does she use her electric mind to tap into the collective conscious in a positive way, or in a negative way (something this placement has the ability to do very well, with Aquarius being rather psychic itself and very in-tune with the collective consciousness)? Does the detachment from emotion and fluidity that she may feel sexually help or hinder her cause? Only the rest of the chart can tell.
Black Moon Lilith in Pisces: BML is Pisces is kind of like the “dream weaver;” she has big dreams and really has the ability to get caught up in these dreams. As long as what she’s dreaming of is of the positive variety, this uninhibited ability to reach for the stars can serve her very well in allowing her to make her own dreams come true. The downside here tends to deal with the unrealistic nature of some of these dreams, and even the ability to con herself and/or con other people, sort of playing the role of “lord of illusions.” She can spin a very good tale for other people if she needs too, and for her to help herself make it through the day. Help making it through the day is another thing that speaks here, since Lilith in Pisces may find the world too hard and ugly to deal with on a day to day basis. This could lead her down a path towards trying to escape this ugliness with proclivities towards addictions (and this could be any sort of addiction, but specifically those of the substance variety). Sex could also end up being a sort of escape for her, but sex for the sake of escape will leave her feeling empty and even more self-sacrificing. She needs to turn all of her intuition (this placement is highly intuitive) towards actually helping others in the physical reality and not just spinning them stories that are nothing more than illusions. She really shines here when she allows herself do this. The different ways that this placement could manifest would, again, depend on house placement and aspects made.

In the previous post about Out of Bounds planets, it was mentioned which planets go out of bounds, and which ones do not (so I won’t recap all of that here again). We’ll jump right in with the planet that gets out from under the Sun’s grasp the most often, which is of course the Moon. The time that this happens with the most frequency is every 18.6 years or so (when the North Node is at 0° Aries), and the Moon gives a giant middle finger to the Sun’s gravitational pull, and does what it wants, how it wants, when it wants. Now, what does it look like when the Moon goes out of bounds you ask? And how does this manifest in a person’s life? Let’s take a look at what can happen. **Keep in mind that the closer to the maximum declination of 28.5 degrees that the Moon finds itself, the more extreme the OOB Moon will be felt by the person and will come out to play in real life.**
When the Moon goes out of bounds, the person will absolutely feel it even if the OOB Moon isn’t as easily “seen” outwardly (though it usually is to some degree). Being out of bounds frees the Moon from any restriction and being “fenced in” that it might feel or face (from the sign that it falls under, the house that it resides in, and the aspects it makes), as well as from any outward restriction that society tries to impose. It also can cause the person to feel that they don’t quite belong here or anywhere, that they don’t quite fit in to societal norms, and some may actually feel that they are not actually of this planet/this dimension. Point blank, most all people that I’ve known with the Moon OOB have a distinct feeling, and usually quite early on, of being different from other people. This can be a more “positive” type of difference (such as being some sort of visionary genuis and using this ability towards bettering the world somehow), or a more “negative” type of difference (such as someone who doesn’t give a fuck about any laws that are set up in society, and breaks them every chance they get). A lot of the time, the OOB Moon person will be a little of both options above. Either way, or any way, this distinct feeling of being “different” can cause the person to feel some very intense loneliness at times, while other times they may fully delight in this feeling of being different from the masses. *I put positive and negative in quotes above because depending on the way you personally feel about those examples in question will depend on if you think they’re positive or negative.
Another common theme with the out of bounds Moon tends to be a sensitivity that runs deep to their very core (and very big emotions and feelings), though the outside world may not ever know or realize this about these people. They are deeply emotional (even in the less traditionally emotional Moon Signs of Virgo, Aquarius, and Capricorn), and they know this about themselves and all the vulnerability that can come with it. While vulnerable, some people with the OOB Moon will embrace this vulnerability easily, while others will try to stuff it away in a place that no one else can reach it. It does tend to be sensed in some way by other people and by the world, even if the person has tried their best to hide it away. This can cause the OOB Moon native to be left wide open for people to mercilessly walk all over and all across any personal boundaries they try to set up. This isn’t always meant in an intrusive way by the person walking all over the boundaries of those with the OOB Moon; the person in question may really just sense the OOB person’s vulnerability and want to be of help. Though, there are those people who don’t necessarily have the best interest of the OOB Moon person at heart while walking all over their boundaries. They may be trying to find some weakness to exploit, or have some other nefarious reason for their actions. Luckily, being massively intuitive is also a card that the OOB Moon person has in their back pocket and they are usually able to tell (or feel) the difference between such people. Not only intuitive, these people seem to have some kind of link to the subconscious/unconscious mind (whether they realize this or not), as well as being highly empathetic beings.
Since boundaries were mentioned in the paragraph above, these people tend to be able to shatter boundaries themselves. Though this isn’t usually in an intrusive way of getting into the personal business of other people/walking all over personal boundaries, but more of a way that they don’t see universal boundaries (and norms) in the same way as other people. This can be seen in the OOB moon person shattering the boundaries of traditional society and thought; they can been found talking about things that don’t typically get discussed openly in public, to thinking about the “impossible” and making it possible, to being their different or “weird” selves in ‘out in the wild’, to completely shattering societal conventions in favor of living lawlessly (and this can be found in the friendly type lawless person all the way over to the sociopathic criminal). Regardless of the personality here, there is probably a different sort of code that these people live by…..which is how we end up with the visionary genius, the weirdo, the sensitive empath, and the sociopathic criminal all as possible outcomes here (among other possibilities). All of these people tend to view the world differently than other people, and thus their morals and ethics will be colored by how they view the world (and vice versa). To see what sort of code the OOB Moon person lives by, you would want to look at the sign the out of bounds Moon falls, the house in which is resides, and any aspects made to the Moon.
I could see the out of bounds Moon as possibly manifesting as a sort of extreme depending on the sign the Moon falls in. For example, since there is something very Uranian/Aquarian about the OOB Moon anyway, I’d imagine that the person with an OOB Moon in Aquarius would probably become even more visionary in their thoughts and probably quite intuitive and spiritual (since Aquarius is a universal sign), and using this for the good. Someone who’s easily able to connect with the collective on a subconscious/unconscious level and in a very humanitarian way. I could also see the pendulum swinging in the opposite direction; someone who almost goes “mad” from all of their visionary thought, or someone who says “fuck this” to society and when doing this leaves the concept of “humanity” behind…either by way of walking away from society entirely and living out in the woods in a Unibomber-esque fashion, or just really not giving a fuck about society in general and the impact that they have on it.

Ahhhh, synastry! It’s quite interesting to look at synastry charts between two people, seeing the energy that both people bring into the relationship and how both of their energies interact with one another. I have a real interest in the house overlay part of synastry, which is when you look at a specific planet in your chart (say, Saturn) and see what house it falls inside of in your partner’s chart. Here is an example of what I’m talking about:
When looking at a particular planet in house overlays in synastry, the planet person will be affecting the house person with the energy of that particular planet, primarily in the area of life that the house in question deals with. In the case of this post, we’ll be looking at how Saturn in one person’s chart impacts the other person’s chart by way of the house it falls in. Saturn is a teacher (not always an easy teacher, but a teacher none-the-less), and usually the lessons that Saturn has to teach in Synastry have something to do with responsibility, restriction (not all restriction is bad all of the time), maturity, stabilization, and getting serious. Some people need the lessons that the Saturn person is in their lives to teach, and some don’t (it really depends on the natural inclination of the house person). **This is strictly JUST looking at the energy between Saturn and the house that it falls in in synastry, not taking into account any other aspects (such as other planets in your partner’s house), which, of course will color how you will want to interpret everything.**
Your Saturn falling in your partner’s First House: You probably have a pretty stabilizing effect on the house person here (whether they want this stabilization is another question entirely). There may be a certain sort of restriction that the house person feels in regards to themselves when you are around. Maybe they feel they can’t be fully themselves in someway around you? Or maybe just by way of being in a relationship with you, the house person becomes more serious, more traditional, and more mature. Regardless of other aspects in the synastry chart to see if the house person considers these positive or negative attributes to acquire, the lesson Saturn teaches here is all about stabilizing and maturing the “self” of the house person.
Your Saturn falling in your partner’s Second House: You are probably in your partner’s life for many reasons, but a big one will be teaching them lessons about how to really work for what they value, and how to really work for what makes them feel secure. Also, you as the Saturn person could end up being what makes the house person secure, since Saturn has a tendency of acting as an anchor in the house it falls (there may be real security for the house person that you will “stick” around, thus making them secure). You may have a rather stabilizing effect on their financial situation, helping them to obtain what they want financially. Or you may help them to become more responsible in these areas of life and less wanton and devil-may-care.
Your Saturn falling in your partner’s Third House: I’ve always found this to be a somewhat difficult placement in house overlays, and that’s because Saturn here can cause some restriction in communication for the house person. This restriction can actually be a type of maturity in communication that the Saturn person is teaching in lesson form to the house person (maybe the house person needs to learn this lesson, restriction isn’t always a bad thing). The Saturn person can also cause the house person to think more seriously and more practically, causing a complete shift in their thought process. Or, if the house person is already more serious and realistically minded, it can cause them to go off the deep end with their seriousness and realism (which could cause the house person to become more depressively inclined).
Your Saturn falling in your partner’s Fourth House: The lesson that Saturn wants to teach here has to with anchoring one down, and sometimes this is welcome (and sometimes it isn’t). Saturn falling in your partner’s 4th house can either be a really good thing, or a bad thing. You can deeply effect the house person, causing them to feel stable and secure down to their very private core (since the 4th house is the most private part of the natal chart, along with the IC). If you happen to live with the house person, you may be a real stablizing presence in the person’s home life. Depending on other factors in your charts, Saturn falling in your partner’s 4th house could cause the house person to feel restricted at home, or cause them to feel more responsibility towards the home and private life than maybe they would like.
Your Saturn falling in your partner’s Fifth House: Your Saturn falling in your partner’s 5th house can cause you restrict or mature (depending on the house person and the way you look at it) the house person in areas revolving around self-expression, creativity, and joy. You may help them to become more practical in these areas of their life (such as helping them to be more practical in how they express themselves), or your energy may stifle them (such as stifling their creativity). If the the 5th house person is naturally inclined to gamble or take risks, you may cause them not to do this so much or so often. Children and the idea of having them are usually serious business, and if this is a romantic relationship there could be blockage or delay in this area of life, usually by way of Saturn’s energy on the house person.
Your Saturn falling in your partner’s Sixth House: Generally, Saturn is pretty comfortable in the 6th in House Overlays. Saturn here usually has a lesson to teach the house person in the areas of work, daily life and personal health. Saturn’s energy here wants to teach the house person to get serious about these areas of life, and to be practical and responsible. And depending on the house person, this could be a very welcome energy into their life. Saturn may help the house person to become serious about taking care of their physical body & health, to persevere while working (and to just work hard in general), and to be responsible in daily life. The one downside that I see here is the possibility of causing the house person to feel criticized in some way, especially if Saturn’s energy in this house isn’t welcome (or necessarily needed).

Recently, talk of draconic charts in astrology seems to have exploded around the different forums that I frequent (which is super-exciting, I love talking about this stuff!), which gave me the idea to make another entry highlighting these charts and what I believe are the important things to focus on while deciphering them. This is kind of a hodgepodge of ideas dealing with these charts, so bear with me if my ideas seem to kind of jump from thing to thing.
Pluto’s importance here in these charts should never be forgotten. Pluto (and it’s polarity point opposite it) has a very special place within evolutionary astrology, almost operating like the North Node/South Node Axis, showing where we come from on a soul level and what we want to evolve into. The position of one’s natal Pluto points to the way we are based on the experiences from our previous incarnations (or where/how we come into this lifetime most “familiar”), while the natal Pluto Polarity point points to what our soul wants to evolve into in this lifetime. By reading these two placements in a draconic chart, I almost see this as Pluto representing the way that we just naturally (on a soul level) believe things, desire things, and perceive things, but the draconic Pluto Polarity Point shows the highest possible evolution of our soul (all that our soul could be). It’s once that we’ve actually obtained this soul goal of “becoming” our Pluto Polarity Point that we probably stop reincarnating into this world and then go on to somewhere else. Once we’ve reached the highest elevation of this point in the draconic chart, our soul’s mission and evolution over all lifetimes is complete (or that’s one of my theories, anyway). With Pluto being so important, when reading a draconic chart by itself make sure to take notice of where Pluto (and its polarity point) are in the chart. This should give you some kind of idea where you have been on a soul level across all lifetimes (by sign, house, and aspects), and where (probably) the highest elevation of your soul’s nature lies (by the Pluto Polarity Point and its sign, house, and aspects). Remember, when reading the natal and draconic charts, the “lenses” you use are different. The natal chart is just about this present incarnation, so Pluto and its polarity point in this chart points to the evolutionary journey and process for this life. Pluto and its Polarity Point in the draconic chart point to the evolutionary process and journey across all lifetimes.
The Moon is, I believe, another very important planet to take note of in the draconic chart, since the nodes of the Moon are based off the Moon in the natal chart (and the draconic chart is created by making the north node 0-degrees Aries). The draconic Moon shows how you function emotionally and process your feelings (and the type of feelings that you have) across all time and space. By house, the draconic Moon shows the areas that your soul at its deepest levels may have the most emotional investment in, or to what and where you are most emotionally tied. By sign, the draconic Moon can show the way that your soul expresses the Moon’s energy naturally. These are probably very much within the subconscious parts of your mind in this lifetime, maybe not even fully able to be rationalized, and very innate. When you have feeling about something, and maybe you don’t even know why you feel a certain way about it…..I would bet that’s the draconic Moon at work.
Sometimes I feel like our souls want an easier time or more difficult time handling things like our emotions (or really anything) in certain lifetimes. I also fully believe that before we are incarnated in each life our soul decides, or at least has a say, in what we want our natal charts to look/be like. With that said, if our soul wanted to grow in how we process and handle our feelings in this incarnation, as a way of learning a life lesson to then carry over to the next life, it may throw some difficult aspects between the Moon and other planets/celestial bodies in the natal chart. However, the real catalysts for change on a soul level seem to be the more difficult aspects between a planet/celestial body in the natal chart and a planet/celestial body in the draconic chart. An example of this would be difficult aspects between, say, the natal Sun and the draconic Moon. There is some deep soul lesson to be learned (possibly even karmic) about your sense of selfhood in this lifetime and how you really feel, deep down in your soul. This sense of selfhood could even translate to a sense of “soulhood” when we get down to it; something about the soul’s sense of self and the soul’s emotions that could only really be learned through this lifetime by having your natal Sun in a certain place, making a more difficult aspect to your draconic Moon. When reading the draconic chart on its own or in tandem with the natal chart, the planets and aspects that I personally take special care in analyzing are as follows: *The Sun *The Moon *Pluto *The Nodes of the Moon ——-I realize that in draconic charts the North Node is always set to 0-degrees Aries, but pay attention here to any planets/celestial bodies that aspect the Nodes in both types of charts. Also pay attention to any aspects that your natal North & South Nodes make to the draconic North & South Nodes. * All of the major angles by house, sign, and aspects made (Ascendant, Descendant, Midheaven & Imum Coeli/IC). Take careful note of the IC, though. Being the most private part of your natal chart, and where your “roots” are, I feel like this has a special place in draconic astrology as well (since the draconic chart appear to be like the roots of the soul). *I take special note of conjunctions and oppositions, because these tend to be karmic (as are square aspects sometimes, depending on the planets/celestial bodies in aspect). *The Vertex & Antivertex axis is also something that has always struck me as important when looking at these charts together. Connections made between the natal Vertex and draconic planets/celestial bodies (and vice versa) could indicate areas of your life (and soul) that just feel really, really fated (and surprising) but you don’t really understand why. Connections made between the natal Antivertex and draconic planets/celestial bodies (and vice versa) will still feel really, really fated, but there will probably be a sense of expecting/knowing/more understanding that comes from this fated feeling (something that feels fated, but you already knew would manifest).

When I get asked about the 12th House in the natal chart (such as what it means when such and such planet finds itself paying rent there), there is usually a sort of fear behind the question. Behind the question usually lurk a sense of “oh my gahhh, I have Venus in the 12th house, I just know it’s bad.” Many of the different keywords assigned to this house can seem nasty at first glance, so people tend to naturally think having (whatever) planet in the 12th house is automatically to their detriment. Though planets found in the 12th house of one’s natal chart aren’t necessarily easy, they certainly aren’t unilaterally negative and their placement in the 12th house has a purpose (usually to grow and evolve one in a spiritual way/on a soul level).
Of the houses in the natal chart, the 12th house is one of my favorites to explore (along with the 4th house, but I’ll get around to that one later). This house is typically given keywords like “karma,””empathy and compassion,” “escape,” “the womb/mother’s labor experience,” “the unconscious,” “spirituality”, “prisons/imprisonment,” “hidden enemies,” “serve or suffer,” and the ever fear inducing “the house of self-undoing.” Unfortunately, in my experience people tend to focus far too much on the negative keywords and not enough on the positive ones. This house has a magical sort of quality to it, especially in terms of all the spirituality and compassion that can be found dwelling here (and even more so once the native has begun evolving beyond the more difficult traits of this house).
All the planets that live in this house live under a sort of fog, a veil, in the unconscious. None of the planets and their planetary energies are easily accessible here in an overt and conscious way, and this is where I believe the keywords “hidden enemies” and “prisons/imprisonment” come into play. Of course, both of those keywords could be taken literally, but I’ve never really read them that way (unless there were other clear aspects in the chart to indicate some type of imprisonment of the person/some kind of enemy hidden in the shadows). Let’s say that you have your Moon in the 12th House. That’s a tough place for the Moon to takeup residence. Since the Moon rules our emotions, having your Moon under the fog of this house may make someone not understand their own feelings and emotions about things as easily. They know they have these certain feelings, can sense them on an unconscious/unseen level, but can’t consciously (easily) figure out clearly why they feel the way do. This would, I imagine, cause the person to feel imprisoned by their own emotions, by their Moon. Almost as if the 12th House is holding that planetary energy hostage, not letting it leave it’s grasp. The same sort of thing could be said about “hidden enemies.” The planet and planetary energy that is in this house could explode in more destructive ways, thus turning that person’s own planetary placement against the native, becoming an enemy of the chart holder. Again, for example, the Moon in the 12th may cause someone to have emotional outbursts at inappropriate times, in inappropriate ways, directed at the “wrong” person, and for the “wrong” reasons (how this would manifest would really also depend on the aspects made to the planet, what sign the planet was in, etc).
The 12th House is thought to be associated with the karma that we bring with us from past life, as well as karma that we may incur during this lifetime. Honestly, I’m not sure how I feel about THIS particular thing. Can the 12th House be karmic? Absolutely. Do I ALWAYS take the karmic approach when reading this house? No. If I were to go the karmic route with this house after taking the whole chart into consideration, here is how I would carry on with that train of thought: The notion of karma can be both good and bad (we need to keep this in mind first and foremost). The aspects the planet(s) in the 12th House make with different planetary bodies in the chart are an indicator of how the karma functions. Since planets and their energy/traits that fall in the 12th House aren’t as easily accessible to the native and are covered by a sort of fog, there is a theory that planets that that reside here in a natal chart do so for karmic purposes. For example, let’s say you have Mars in the 12th House. In a past life maybe you misused your drive, ambition, and aggression towards the more negative side of the spectrum. In this life, maybe you decided (or it was decided for you) that your Mars would fall here as a way of making this energy less accessible to you, thus making it harder to misuse it in this lifetime. Since Mars here lives under the fog that covers this house, it could incline one to have a difficult time overtly expressing those Martian energies like drive, ambition, aggression, and even anger. This would sort of balance out the karma accrued from the abuse of those energies in a past life (or past lifetimes).
Another interesting notion about the 12th House is the idea that the planets that find themselves here in the natal chart can represent what the native’s own mother’s pregnancy with them was like. For example, Neptune in the 12th can indicate that the chart holder’s mother’s pregnancy was also kind of under a fog of sorts/possibly something unclear here about her feelings at the time (and it’s also possible that her life at that time was unclear). Maybe she wasn’t quite sure how she felt about the entire situation of being pregnant, impending motherhood and the like. Maybe she had never planned to be a parent at all (but found herself becoming one)? Maybe there was something unclear and uncertain about her life situation at the time she was pregnant that put a haze over her pregnancy? The closer that planet (or planets) is to the Ascendant (I’d use a 10 degree orb or less here), the more likely that/those planet(s) are telling the story of the native’s birth/the native’s mother’s labor. Does the native have Saturn in the 12th House within a 10° orb of the Ascendant? This could indicate that their mother’s labor with them was long, and possibly difficult in someway. As an aside, Saturn here conjunct the Ascendant can indicate that the native themselves wasn’t ready to be reborn into this incarnation; their soul was resistant to come back and do the whole “living on earth thing” again.
The keywords of “The House of Self-Undoing” and “Serve or Suffer” to describe the 12th House are my personal favorites to try and decipher. While the keywords certainly sound very doom and gloom, I tend not to see them as such. The 12th House is where one shed’s their ego; Ego doesn’t exist here. I actually tend to believe that it is the “self-undoing” (and the “serve or suffer”) keywords that tend to liberate ones from the fog of this house. One of the very best ways to work through the planetary energy in this house is by channeling that typical planetary energy into the 6th House. (I actually believe this to be true for any difficult planetary energy in any house, but specifically for the 6th/12th House Axis.) Since planetary energy in the 12th House is more hidden and one may not even really know what energy to channel into the 6th House, I would suggest learning/reading about said 12th House planet, but learn about it in the 6th House as well. For example, if you have Venus in the 12th House, you may have a harder time easily and naturally showing expressions of love to those around you; there may be some kind of blockage in being able to do so. The way to work through that might be to become actively aware of this, and become of some sort of service towards those you love and other people as well (generally in some way which you spread positivity, beauty, and love to those who need it most). By being of service to others (regardless of the planet in the 12th house), the native is able to work through the fog of those 12th House planets which helps them to see the planet and its energy in a more clear and open way. By working through this energy (these energies), you are essentially “un-doing” yourself. Undoing the natural way/programming that you unconsciously use to handle the energy of the planet(s) that live there, so that you can use this/these planet(s) in a conscious way. Sometimes we must all “un-do” ourselves to grow and evolve into something better, into a higher state of being.
In the first posting about Draconic Charts, I went into what exactly they are and what they are thought to represent, along with my own personal beliefs about these charts. In this post, we’ll get into how one should approach reading a Draconic Chart and the lens in which they should probably be read. The Draconic Chart can either be read as it’s own entity, or can be read in conjunction with the Natal Chart. Really, I find the later is the more complete way to read these charts, but on their own they are also very interesting.
Read in conjunction to the Natal Chart, you are looking at charts with two different types of energy and two different purposes. You can think of the Natal Chart as the outward manifestation energy and the Draconic Chart as the inward manifestation of energy. That’s not to say that the Natal Chart is only an outward manifestation of energy (clearly it isn’t when looked at on its own), but put up against the Draconic Chart the Natal Chart is infinitely more outward than the Draconic. Another way that I like to think of these charts is the Natal Chart is like the EGO and the Draconic Chart is one’s ID (like Freud’s theory of the ID, EGO and SUPEREGO). The Natal Chart is how one presents themselves in this lifetime, how they are in the here and now, the EGO of the charts. The Draconic Chart is primal like the ID, and instinctual. It is how we innately operate on a soul level, all the positive and negative that we truly are. There are astrologers that believe a newborn baby (or a small infant in babyhood) would closer identify with their Draconic Chart….if they were able to identify with charts. This is because the if the Draconic is considered the chart of the soul, then a newborn baby’s (or infant in babyhood’s) soul is so new here on earth that they still identify strongly with their soul-makeup rather than their makeup for this lifetime; they still identify solely with the ID, the EGO hasn’t taken hold yet.
From my understanding, you read the aspects, planets, houses, angles, degrees, etc. the same way that you read a Natal Chart, you just read them through a different lens. This lens needs to be directed inward, deep and probing, and most of all, intuitive. *For example, the I.C. in the Natal Chart represents your roots, your early home life, and the home that you want to create for yourself. I also like to think of the I.C. as asking the question “what/where is home to you?” Maybe home to you is in the same sort of situation you found yourself growing up? Maybe it’s something completely opposite, or even something avant-garde? The concept and question of home is asked by the I.C., regardless of what the answer is. Now, in the Natal Chart the concept of home is seen through the lens of this lifetime, whereas in the Draconic Chart the concept of home goes much deeper, beyond just this lifetime. It asks the question of “what/where is home to you?,” but it is asked on a soul level. What you are set up to need in this lifetime may not paint the full picture of what your soul really needs. The I.C. of the Natal Chart and I.C. of the Draconic Chart may even feel like they are conflicting somehow, like they are wanting two very different things. When this occurs, it’s my theory that the native set themselves up for this sort of unconscious struggle about what they want and need in the present life v. what they really need on a soul level. Just to be clear, this conflicting present lifetime need v. soul need can occur with anything between Natal Chart and the Draconic Chart, not just with the I.C. *For another example, say someone has Venus at 17 degrees in Libra in the 7th House in their natal chart. This probably makes them someone that is all about relationships and partnerships, wanting to bring peace and balance to them. If Mars is at 17 degrees in Capricorn in the 7th House in the Draconic Chart, this makes Mars and Venus conjunct between the charts. This can cause that Natal Venus in Libra person to maybe, on a soul level, be a little more aggressive, authoritative, strategic, and assertive than they even realize when dealing with their relationships, what they project onto other people and other 7th house matters. This underlying urge can pop up from time to time (or may always be present under the surface). These two planetary energies are merging (by way of being conjunct), but they don’t always jive well together within the same person. This could be another example of conflicting needs between the soul level and this lifetime. The person needs to figure out a way to bring these two energies together and have them operating in-sync rather than one competing for attention (which can easily happen with conjunctions).
An important point to bring up in talking about these charts being analyzed against one another are the aspects created between the two, specifically the conjunction and opposition aspects. There is something very karmic about these aspects naturally regardless of what chart you are looking at, with the conjunction blending together two energies and the opposition pulling two energies in completely different directions. Since these aspects can be karmic in nature, it only makes sense that they would take precedence in the very karmic Draconic Chart. When looking at the aspects between both of these charts, I would advise keeping your orbs much tighter than usual, probably not more than 3 or 4 degrees. Some astrologers like to go even tighter than that (in the 1 to 2 degree orb range). Usually I will try to keep them tighter than 4 degrees, but it really depends on the what planetary body, angle, etc. is being analyzed and the overall feel of the two charts read in tandem.
