  • Stuff about Draconic Charts in Astrology (Part 3)

    Recently, talk of draconic charts in astrology seems to have exploded around the different forums that I frequent (which is super-exciting, I love talking about this stuff!), which gave me the idea to make another entry highlighting these charts and what I believe are the important things to focus on while deciphering them. This is kind of a hodgepodge of ideas dealing with these charts, so bear with me if my ideas seem to kind of jump from thing to thing.

    Real quick though: if you would like for me to read your draconic chart for you (or my favorite – the natal to draconic comparison), or any kind of astrology reading, you can book a reading with me.     Pluto’s importance here in these charts should never be forgotten. Pluto (and it’s polarity point opposite it) has a very special place within evolutionary astrology, almost operating like the North Node/South Node Axis, showing where we come from on a soul level and what we want to evolve into. The position of one’s natal Pluto points to the way we are based on the experiences from our previous incarnations (or where/how we come into this lifetime most “familiar”), while the natal Pluto Polarity point points to what our soul wants to evolve into in this lifetime. By reading these two placements in a draconic chart, I almost see this as Pluto representing the way that we just naturally (on a soul level) believe things, desire things, and perceive things, but the draconic Pluto Polarity Point shows the highest possible evolution of our soul (all that our soul could be). It’s once that we’ve actually obtained this soul goal of “becoming” our Pluto Polarity Point that we probably stop reincarnating into this world and then go on to somewhere else. Once we’ve reached the highest elevation of this point in the draconic chart, our soul’s mission and evolution over all lifetimes is complete (or that’s one of my theories, anyway). With Pluto being so important, when reading a draconic chart by itself make sure to take notice of where Pluto (and its polarity point) are in the chart. This should give you some kind of idea where you have been on a soul level across all lifetimes (by sign, house, and aspects), and where (probably) the highest elevation of your soul’s nature lies (by the Pluto Polarity Point and its sign, house, and aspects). Remember, when reading the natal and draconic charts, the “lenses” you use are different. The natal chart is just about this present incarnation, so Pluto and its polarity point in this chart points to the evolutionary journey and process for this life. Pluto and its Polarity Point in the draconic chart point to the evolutionary process and journey across all lifetimes.

    The Moon is, I believe, another very important planet to take note of in the draconic chart, since the nodes of the Moon are based off the Moon in the natal chart (and the draconic chart is created by making the north node 0-degrees Aries). The draconic Moon shows how you function emotionally and process your feelings (and the type of feelings that you have) across all time and space. By house, the draconic Moon shows the areas that your soul at its deepest levels may have the most emotional investment in, or to what and where you are most emotionally tied. By sign, the draconic Moon can show the way that your soul expresses the Moon’s energy naturally. These are probably very much within the subconscious parts of your mind in this lifetime, maybe not even fully able to be rationalized, and very innate. When you have feeling about something, and maybe you don’t even know why you feel a certain way about it…..I would bet that’s the draconic Moon at work.

    Sometimes I feel like our souls want an easier time or more difficult time handling things like our emotions (or really anything) in certain lifetimes. I also fully believe that before we are incarnated in each life our soul decides, or at least has a say, in what we want our natal charts to look/be like. With that said, if our soul wanted to grow in how we process and handle our feelings in this incarnation, as a way of learning a life lesson to then carry over to the next life, it may throw some difficult aspects between the Moon and other planets/celestial bodies in the natal chart. However, the real catalysts for change on a soul level seem to be the more difficult aspects between a planet/celestial body in the natal chart and a planet/celestial body in the draconic chart. An example of this would be difficult aspects between, say, the natal Sun and the draconic Moon. There is some deep soul lesson to be learned (possibly even karmic) about your sense of selfhood in this lifetime and how you really feel, deep down in your soul. This sense of selfhood could even translate to a sense of “soulhood” when we get down to it; something about the soul’s sense of self and the soul’s emotions that could only really be learned through this lifetime by having your natal Sun in a certain place, making a more difficult aspect to your draconic Moon. When reading the draconic chart on its own or in tandem with the natal chart, the planets and aspects that I personally take special care in analyzing are as follows:
    *The Sun
    *The Moon
    *Pluto
    *The Nodes of the Moon
    ——-I realize that in draconic charts the North Node is always set to 0-degrees Aries, but pay attention here to any planets/celestial bodies that aspect the Nodes in both types of charts. Also pay attention to any aspects that your natal North & South Nodes make to the draconic North & South Nodes.
    * All of the major angles by house, sign, and aspects made (Ascendant, Descendant, Midheaven & Imum Coeli/IC). Take careful note of the IC, though. Being the most private part of your natal chart, and where your “roots” are, I feel like this has a special place in draconic astrology as well (since the draconic chart appear to be like the roots of the soul).
    *I take special note of conjunctions and oppositions, because these tend to be karmic (as are square aspects sometimes, depending on the planets/celestial bodies in aspect).
    *The Vertex & Antivertex axis is also something that has always struck me as important when looking at these charts together. Connections made between the natal Vertex and draconic planets/celestial bodies (and vice versa) could indicate areas of your life (and soul) that just feel really, really fated (and surprising) but you don’t really understand why. Connections made between the natal Antivertex and draconic planets/celestial bodies (and vice versa) will still feel really, really fated, but there will probably be a sense of expecting/knowing/more understanding that comes from this fated feeling (something that feels fated, but you already knew would manifest).

  • North & South Nodes along the Leo/Aquarius Axis

    **In this post, we will take the House that the North Node falls in out of the equation and just focus on what it means to have your North Node in a specific sign (and what it means to have the South Node in the polarity sign). Usually with things having to do with the Nodal Axis (and growing into our North Node), a catalyst occurs in our lives that edges us out of the comfort of the South Node and into the uncharted territory of the North. This catalyst could be something major and life changing (such as a death, marriage, or divorce), or even something much more minor. Something will kind of shake us internally, saying “Wake up, fucker. You’re supposed to move beyond this,” whatever the “this” in the situation is. Once this waking up occurs, you will begin to move towards the North Node. Though, in all my years of study, this period of waking up usually doesn’t occur until the person’s first Saturn Return, or after it.**

    I’m going a little out of order here, I know. The next part of this series should really be about the Gemini & Sagittarius North Node/South Node Axis, but I just recently saw a question on reddit about the North Node in Leo, which gave me the idea go out of order here.

    North Node in Leo/South Node in Aquarius: If your North Node is in Leo, in this lifetime, your soul wanted to evolve into the feeling of being a real leader (and actually becoming one in some way). Your soul also desperately wants to be seen and heard, and front and center/in the spotlight in a way that you haven’t been able to be in a past life (or lives). The soul also has a deep need here to grow one’s sense of self, specifically the ego, and to really let yourself feel and react in natural and animated ways (both positive and negative) without restricting yourself. In past lives, with Aquarius ruling your South Node, you were probably more concerned with more universal and humanitarian issues (such as social injustices, social causes, etc), and were happy to be part of the larger collective working to better mankind. You didn’t need the spotlight and may have been content just being another cog in the wheel towards that betterment. In this life, your soul wanted to move out of the larger collective and come to the front of the stage and really shine, so to speak (possibly even by way of leading this type of collective). You wanted to be seen and heard in this lifetime, wanted to become the leader that you really are deep down and cultivate a healthy sense of ego for yourself. In regards to your relationships and feelings, you are looking for something deeper on a personal on a self level than you’ve had in your past lives as the Aquarius South Node suggests. There is a definite coolness and aloofness here that you are probably more comfortable expressing than your much more animated North Node emotions. There was also probably more emphasis in past lives placed on intellect, genius, and vision, which also caused your emotions to take a backseat. Once the evolution towards the North Node mission begins, usually from some catalyst big or small that kind of thrusts you into the big or small spotlight, you can find yourself a capable leader who just absolutely shines.

    North Node in Aquarius/South Node in Leo: In this lifetime, Aquarius North Node person, your soul wanted to acheive progressiveness, working with the collective in some way, embracing the different, out-of-the-box & the weird, and the breakdown of the ego (and any self-absorbed tendencies) in favor of merging with something more universal and bigger than just yourself, and actually humbling your soul. You have probably spent a past lifetime (or several lifetimes) as the leader of the pack, in the spotlight, and front and center. There probably isn’t much of an issue with your ego based on this placement alone carried over from previous lives, and there may be a tendency to usually put yourself first before what would be best for everyone (yourself + everyone) in any given situation. You are probably naturally a very animated, lively, exuberant person (and maybe even a little dramatic at times). In this lifetime you probably crave the adoration, recognition, glamour, and luxury that you became accustomed to in previous incarnations. However, this isn’t your purpose this time around. Your soul deeply wanted to learn how to operate within the collective (not leading it), being productive and probably even visionary/genius-like in your own ideas and the ideas that you bounce around with other people. Embrace those genius, visionary, out-of-the-box, and just plain weird thoughts and ideas that you have in this lifetime! Don’t hold them back for fear of what people will think or for fear of hurting your image. Work with them, instead of against them. Instead of being as concerned with yourself as you have been in past lives, your soul wanted to focus it’s energy (and there is a lot of energy here!) towards more universal causes that impact mankind. Once the evolution into the North Node begins, usually from some type of catalyst that breaks down your sense of ego in some way, you will see that you are still special but there is more to this life and your soul’s purpose than just a sense of self and ego. So much more.

    To flesh out the nodal axis story further (to get the whole picture), you will need to also consider where the planetary ruler of the North and South Nodes fall in the chart by sign, house, and aspects made. In the case of Leo & Aquarius you would be looking at the Sun and Saturn & Uranus.

  • North & South Nodes along the Taurus/Scorpio Axis

Usually with things having to do with the Nodal Axis (and growing into our North Node), a catalyst occurs in our lives that edges us out of the comfort of the South Node and into the uncharted territory of the North.     North Node in Taurus/South Node in Scorpio: If you have the North Node in Taurus, your North Node mission in this life is all about security and stability in the physical world, to learn to take care of yourself for yourself, to calm down/slow down and relax. In this lifetime, your soul wanted to evolve into something more earthy, grounded and stable in the physical reality. This is probably a far cry from your South Node in Scorpio, which indicates that you spent your previous lifetime (or maybe several lifetimes) in a state of change and in the intangible/spiritual world. There may have been a lot of upheaveal and chaos (which you may or may not have caused), issues with power (either misusing your own power or not standing up to other people’s when you should’ve), and possibly even some abuse (either with you as the giver or receiver). In this lifetime, your soul wanted to chill the fuck out; your soul is tired from all the chaos and drama that your past lives brought you, hence the North Node here in more relaxed, slow moving, and calm Taurus. There is also a real inner strength inside of you, for having lived through some pretty dark shit in your past lives you have the emotional wherewithal to handle just about anything this lifetime throws at you. The thing here is that when this lifetime throws something really awful your way, your knee-jerk reaction may be to react through the Scorpio South Node themes, feeding into the chaos which makes everything worse for you, as well as having an almost obsessive compulsive streak when going after the perpetrators of these curveballs. When life throws those really terrible curveballs your way take a deep breath, center yourself, and relax. Keep the stability that you have tried so hard to cultivate in this lifetime (whether you realize it or not). And through everything in this life, please don’t forget to enjoy yourself & take the time to smell the roses.

    North Node in Scorpio/South Node in Taurus: This lifetime, Scorpio North Node person, is all about transcendence beyond the physical world and all the comforts that you naturally enjoy there. In this lifetime, your soul really wanted to get to the depths of it’s emotional core and to shake things up. In your past life (or past lifetimes) you probably focused heavily on obtaining these creature comforts that make you feel good and secure (whether that be money, a comfortable and beautiful home, nice possessions, etc). You also probably took things slowly, were self-made (in the sense that everything you obtained in the physical world was obtained for you, by you), probably didn’t let a whole lot ruffle your feathers (even if this was to your own detriment….maybe you should’ve let some things bother you sometimes), and all of these themes and energies are probably what you feel the most comfortable expressing in this lifetime. You are probably a naturally very self-sufficient and stable person in all ways, from knowing who you are to being able to handle things yourself without much help from others. The more rational side of yourself usually wins out to any real deep emotions that you may have from time to time. Don’t fight those emotions in this life, for they are part of what you are here to understand. You are supposed to understand and come to terms with those emotions that in previous lifetimes you probably dismissed in favor of calming down and keeping things on an even-keel. This lifetime should be all about moving into the spiritual and intangible world, moving away from the very fixed/rigid beliefs that you may have, and transcending to something greater than you can imagine. Once you learn to let go of things in the physical/tangible world (and it may not be just learning, but an actual catalyst that forces you to let go of things like possessions), you will be on the path to evolving into your North Node’s mission.

    North Node in Aries/South Node in Libra – Your mission in this lifetime by sign is to focus on the concept of yourself, and who you really are. This placement suggests your soul wanting to grow into a more independent and pioneering spirit, and going after the things that you want in life because YOU want them. Of course, the North Node is never very comfortable for the native, and this may feel an unnatural way for you Aries North Node people to operate. With Libra on the South Node, there have probably been many past lives where you spent your time (or even your whole life) behind the scenes supporting someone else’s visions, dreams and goals. You still act as a source of support for those around you, and are generally just a kind person. You naturally don’t like to rock the boat or make waves, opting instead for harmonic surroundings (even at the expense of yourself and what you want, what you believe, and what you feel). The “Other” and what they want, what they believe, and what they feel will take center stage. Now, there is nothing wrong with caring about others (totally not saying that!) and how they feel, but NOT at the expense of your own feelings. This is generally a lesson that these people were incarnated to figure out and something in their lives that happens will generally set this in motion; how to no longer rely on the lens of the “other” to see themselves, and instead to see themselves through their own eyes, and on their own terms.

    North Node in Libra/South Node in Aries – On the opposite end of the spectrum from the North Node Aries person, in this lifetime the Libra North Node native’s soul wanted to evolve into a more “other focused” state of being. This person’s soul wanted to learn how to be that really great support system for others behind the scenes, leaving the “I” focused Aries and moving into the “We” focus of Libra. In probably many past lifetimes, the Libra North Node person probably spent their lives very independently (in the Aries South Node), doing exactly what they wanted, when they wanted, and probably didn’t care much what anyone else thought about it. There probably wasn’t a real interest or reason to cultivate real meaningful relationships (possibly for survival reasons), so while they may not completely understand another person’s perspective in this lifetime or appear to have an interest in doing so, they DO understand themselves completely; the relationship to the self was the one that was nurtured in past lives. Something in this lifetime will usually happen to these people that forces them to realize that while it’s wonderful to understand and rely on yourself, you also need other people (sometimes, anyway) in your life. Life is usually easier with other people, or at least a few special people that you really connect with.

  • The Nodes of the Moon in an Astrology Chart (North & South Nodes)

    One of the most common questions that I get asked by people when doing readings is something along the lines of “what is my purpose here in this lifetime?”/“What am I supposed to do with my life?” One of the best guidestones for answering this question is to look at the placements of the North and South Nodes of the Moon in the natal chart. The North Node is what the soul wanted to evolve into during this incarnation, the qualities that it hopes/hoped to develop (or needs to develop). The South Node, directly opposite the North Node, shows different traits and qualities that we have brought with us into this lifetime from past incarnations (where we are “comfortable” and “familiar” by sign and house). These are usually traits that we cling too, even if they don’t really serve us anymore. Since the South Node shows the traits and qualities that our souls are familiar with, we are usually very comfortable hanging around our South Node (and would probably be fine never leaving, hahaha!). However, the purpose of our soul in every incarnation is to actually learn something, to transcend and evolve into something else. To move away from the South Node while keeping the very best from it, and taking those best traits forward towards our North Node. As uncomfortable as it may be, if we never leave the comfort and familiarity of our South Node, we will never accomplish the evolutionary process of growing our soul into our North Node’s Soul Mission.

    A bit of pertinent information: The North and South Nodes of the Moon (also known as the Head and Tail of the Dragon, respectively), stay in the same position by sign for about 16-20 months at a time. People who were born under the same North Node sign generally were all reincarnated at the same time because these souls all wanted (or needed) to learn the same lessons in the same generation. It takes the North Node about 18 to 19 years to come full circle in natal chart, which is when you have your Nodal Return. The souls born during your Nodal Return are also part of your soul mission tribe, for their North Node will be in the same sign as yours, but obviously there will be generational differences between your soul mission tribe and theirs (which will color that mission somewhat). There are usually two different Nodes that will pop up when drawing up your natal chart on a website like Astro.com, and they are the “True Node” and the “Mean Node.” There really isn’t much difference between the two usually, maybe only a degree or two difference, and this really only becomes an issue to decipher when the True Node and Mean Node end up being in different signs, houses, or both! In those cases, I would say to use whatever feel the most true and right for you personally. Just for reference, I usually use the True Node when I read charts, but everyone has different methods and different opinions on this subject. No one is right or wrong here 🙂

    As far as the North and South Nodes of the Moon go, I tend to find the house placement a bit more paramount than the sign that rules them. That doesn’t mean that the sign that rules the Nodes isn’t important (not at all!), I just tend to give the house placement a little more attention. This is because by house placement, the North Node will show the major focus(es) of the person’s life, areas of life that may prove uncomfortable for the native, and where the soul really wanted to evolve into in this particular incarnation. The South Node’s House placement shows the major focus(es) that the person had in previous incarnations, areas of life where they are more comfortable because of the familiarity they bring, and where the soul wanted to evolve away from or learn to balance in this incarnation. There may be differences of opinion here, but I feel these areas of life can be easily seen by thinking of the House axis in question, applying a certain keyword (or a few keywords) to describe the purpose of the soul in this lifetime.

    North and South Node things that come up along specific axes:
    *1st House-The Self / 7th House – The Other
    *2nd House-Physical Security (in all ways and in oneself)/8th House- Metamorphosis beyond what one has in the physical world
    *3rd House-Short Journeys and the Concrete Mind & Communication/9th House-Long Journeys and the Abstract Mind & Communication
    *4th House-The Home (what the concept of home means to the native)/10th House-Career and Social & Public Status
    *5th House-Joy and Play/11th House-Groups, Friends and Influenece
    *6th House-Service in the Physical World, Work and Health/12th House- Service to Something Greater & More Universal, and the Unconscious Mind

    The North Node by sign & house placement shows the qualities that one’s soul wanted/wants to grow into in this lifetime. They may not always be the easiest qualities for the person to possess and harness, stuff dealing with the North Node never really is easy. Planets conjunct the North Node usually are there to help the person along in this lifetime, nudging them towards their North Node goal (though they also may not be as comfortable for the person to express, generally speaking). The South Node by sign & house placement shows the qualities that we wanted to move away from, or learn to balance, in this lifetime (while keeping the highest evolution of these qualities); it can be where we take things to extremes, mainly because of the comfort we feel there. Planets cojunct the South Node can end up causing the person problems, just as the South Node can cause people problems. With the conjunction, you are fusing two (or even more) energies together, making it harder to break down the energies separately and effectively work them out. Issues dealing with the planet in conjunction can creep up time and time again in the life of the native. It isn’t until those energies are understood as separate entities that things may get easier in this regard.

    When reading the Nodes of the Moon, you definitely want to consider any aspects that the nodes make to planets, angles, etc. in the chart. You also want to consider where the planetary ruler of the North Node and the South Node fall in the chart (and the aspects that they make). The planetary ruler of the North Node by sign and house will help to flesh out the North Node story, and the planetary ruler of the South Node by sign and house will help to flesh out the South Node story.



  • Saturn Energy (and why it’s fucking awesome)

    A post I saw on Reddit a bit ago had the poster lamenting about how much they disliked all the Capricorn/Saturn Energy in their natal chart. They found all the Saturn/Capricorn Energy difficult and they were wondering how they could access other placements in their chart (such as becoming more in tune with their fire sign moon energy, etc). Essentially they wanted something to counter all the Saturn, something to over-ride it and over-power it. Basically, turning them into someone that they aren’t, that they weren’t divinely created to be. Then I got to thinking…….

    Saturn is one of those greatly misunderstood planets (as well as the sign Capricorn). It tends to be regarded by critics as “serious,” “depressive,” “restrictive,” and “responsible,” with the most negative connotation surrounding those words. Not only is it misunderstood but almost fear inducing, especially when someone mentions the *big bad boogey-man* Saturn Return. Christ, if you want to see what I mean, mention this term in some sort of astrology forum. Or search for posts about people asking questions having to deal with their upcoming Saturn Return, what kinds of negative shit they should expect from it occurring, and how they should brace themselves for what’s to come. Now, I’m not getting onto people wanting to know about what’s to come during their Saturn Returns. People like to know things about what’s to come for them, and there is nothing wrong with preparing oneself for things that could, indeed, be a challenge. It’s all the fucking fear that’s almost been drilled into people about Saturn Energy that bothers me. How Saturn is always painted in a generally dour and negative light. This is all because some asshole decided that it was a “Malefic” planet (because of keywords to describe it like “structure,” “discipline,” and “restriction.”) Saturn is all of those things; the structure, the discipline, the responsibility, the restriction. But it’s so much more than that (and, depending on how you look at them, those aren’t necessarily bad things). Above all else, Saturn is a challenge. A challenge that you’re either up for, or you’re not.

    I have learned a few things about Saturn over the years, the first of which being that Saturn Energy is necessary. You may not always like the structure that it imposes on the areas of your life that it touches. It may not always be “fun,” but it is necessary for your soul’s evolutionary growth. Maybe while your soul was in the “in-between” before this current incarnation, you wanted these kinds of structures, restrictions and responsible feelings to touch specific areas of your life. Maybe I’m a little bit biased since I have Saturn on the Ascendant and a Capricorn Moon (both of which I heavily identify with), but I find the reins, structure and restriction that both place on me are absolutely necessary. If my moon were anywhere else, I probably wouldn’t have the calmness and clear head that I do under really high stress situations. I would also probably be a much more emotionally volatile person in general, but that Capricorn Moon keeps everything in the emotional arena nicely in check. Also, with Saturn on the Ascendant, it gives a seriousness, depth and “rock solid” quality to the personality that otherwise wouldn’t feel (or be) as pronounced to me. And I kind of like that.

    Another thing I have learned about Saturn energy is the more you work against it, the worse it will be for you. This rings true for placements in your own Natal Chart, Synastry Chars, Transit Charts, etc. You can’t work around it, either. Literally, with Saturn Energy, you have to work with it to work through it. Saturn will test you. Saturn has a tendency to throw things in your path that make life more difficult. Some examples could be having Saturn conjunct the Descendant, which could cause that native difficulties within romantic (or just one-on-one) relationships. Another example is the “scary” Saturn Return; during this time, you may find things in your life become more taxing, loss becomes more prominent,”difficult,” and restrictive. If you are someone who doesn’t have a prominent Saturn/Capricorn in your chart and aren’t naturally familiar with this energy, it can feel as if road blocks are constantly going up everywhere and/or that everything is kind of blowing up around you. Saturn, being father time, is there to clean house; to push you away from things, places and people you have just simply outgrown and don’t need anymore. To push you along life’s journey and force you to change in some way. Change can be difficult, and taxing, but oh so necessary. Once the necessary work and perseverance is put into your Natal Saturn/Capricorn Placement(s) to master the lessons that Saturn wants to teach you in this life, you will come out more victorious in that area of life than can be imagined before putting in the work. Saturn does reward hard work and perseverance, after all. (This is true for Transits, Synastry, etc., and especially for Saturn dominant people).

    Look, no one said that life was easy (as I’m sure that all of you know). Saturn promises that there will be difficulties in your life, things to persevere through and will test you to see what you’ve learned and mastered thus far. It is these very difficulties, trials, and tribulations though that cause us to grow and evolve into even more complex beings. To evolve us to a higher state of being. And this evolution and growth is what life, I believe, is all about.

  • The Roots of the Chart (The Fourth House)

    Ahhhh, the 4th House! Another of my favorite house’s of the chart to dive into. You can learn a lot about the psyche of a person by dissecting the 4th House in their Natal Chart, and not superficial stuff, either. This house is typically assigned the keywords and phrases such as “The Home” (both early home life and now) ,” “The Mother” (or the Father, depending on the astrologer), “One’s Roots,” “The Family,” and “Private Life” (especially private since the Imum Coeli/I.C., typically the 4th House Cusp, is the most private place in the entire chart). I find this house to be all of those things, but especially what exactly home is to the native; the concept of home in general and how it can be different things for different people. (Things such as the 4th House ruler, planets in the 4th House, aspects made to the House, etc gives a better idea of how to answer that question). We are so conditioned to believe in home the same exact way; what to want, what to “need,” but these conditioned wants and needs aren’t necessarily what the individual truly needs, wants, or feels comfortable living in. Most of these concepts that we as people have of the idea of what home actually is stem from our early home life.
    Depending on what sign rules as guardian of your 4th House will color how exactly you express the energy of the house. Someone who has the 4th House in Aquarius possibly grew up in an ever changing environment in some way, such as moving a lot, or maybe there was a lot of shifting and changing within the family. All this changeability that they live with (and even seek out in some way) may seem crazy to other people (and maybe even to themselves), but it is usually what they know and feel most comfortable with. These individuals need a lot of freedom to come and go as they please, and they probably aren’t the kind that jump into long term living situations with others quickly or easily by choice. This is in stark contrast to those who have the 4th House in Cancer, which causes the native to want their home life to be a place of rest; these people want to put down roots and settle down (they aren’t looking to come and go.) Changes within the home environment and the family structure make these individuals nervous. They like things to remain consistent and stay pretty much the same (it could indicate the native living close to family/close to where they grew up).
    Of course, any planets that live here matter a ton (especially any planets that conjunct the I.C., but more on that a bit later). Having Jupiter in the 4th House is actually a nice placement overall. It can indicate a happy childhood home/a childhood that you enjoyed, and you generally associate the concepts of home and family with happiness. You may or may not have moved around when you were young, but as you get older you wouldn’t mind the adventure of moving around to new places and may very well seek out being able to do so. You will probably have strong values, morals and ethics that were instilled in you by your family that you hold close. Someone who has Saturn in the 4th may not have the same kind of fond and happy memories of their early home life (this is actually a difficult place for Saturn to live). These people’s childhoods tend to be a little rougher and more difficult. There is something strict and restrictive about this placement; these people don’t have the easiest time outwardly showing their love for their family members in the typical ways. Regardless, these people do have a profound sense of responsibility to their families (both those they are born into and the one they create for themselves), even in situations where they shouldn’t. **I would like to make note here that in these examples I’m throwing out generalizations here. Of course things like your 4th House ruler, different aspects made to planets in the 4th House, etc. will matter immensely with the “what” and the “how” that this energy is expressed.**
    The private aspect to this house is so important, and this is where the I.C. comes into play; the most private and personal part of the natal chart. The way I like to think of the I.C. is to think of the roots of a plant (the core of yourself in this lifetime), which then moves outward and upward along the chart, finally ending at the Midheaven at the top of the chart. Having any planets in the 4th House are important in dealing with our concepts of what home actually is to us and who we really are deep down, but planets conjunct the I.C. seem to intensify this 10 fold. Having Mercury conjunct the I.C. could have allowed you to have grown up immersing yourself in knowledge (or wanting too). These people are probably curious about their roots and their ancestors, and depending on other factors in their charts, definitely have the mental ability and clarity to get to the very bottom of their own psyche. Everyone likes to learn about themselves, but I imagine these people really digging into their own pasts and their family heritage. These people probably have an easier time than some in communicating (in some way) the more private sides of themselves. The people that have Neptune conjunct the I.C. probably have a different sort of experience with the most private side of themselves. There is probably something foggy or unclear about their family in general, despite them searching for answers to the questions they seek about their families (and these questions tend to be of a more spiritual and mystical nature). This placement can also indicate things like secrets and lies within the early home environment, which can cause the native to retreat even further into themselves. While usually very creative and empathetic, there is something putting a haze over their most private self/the core of their being.
    Another interesting topic dealing with this house is the concept of the “mother,” for many believe that this house and the planets that live there (if any) help to describe your own mother and the way that you perceive her to be. It can show the type of relationship that you have with her, along with the type of relationship (and type of mother) that you actually need. Having Pluto fall in the 4th House may cause you to see your own mother as sort of domineering or formidable person, or you could see her as the definition of what metamorphosis is (and this would also depend on other aspects made to this house and the planets that fall there). It could indicate that the mother is still domineering, even into adulthood. It could even indicate that the native maybe needed a more domineering parent in their childhood/adolescence for some reason. The aspects, degrees, etc made to the planets here can indicate which of the ways that your mother is shown here in the 4th House, but shown here she will be; she always is somehow. There is also a generational karmic bent to this topic as well, for they say that planets that find themselves in this house, along with the House ruler and aspects made to the House, can show a sort of generational inheritance (both good and bad) stemming from the family, but especially ones own mother. This doesn’t mean that you will both have the same planets in the 4th House (you could!) but more the things that she passed down to you karmically will find themselves here. For instance, one who has Venus in their 4th House may have inherited this “benefic” planet here in this House due to good Karma that their mother accrued herself, but usually due to karma passed down through several generations.

  • Behind the Veil (The Twelfth House)

    When I get asked about the 12th House in the natal chart (such as what it means when such and such planet finds itself paying rent there), there is usually a sort of fear behind the question. Behind the question usually lurk a sense of “oh my gahhh, I have Venus in the 12th house, I just know it’s bad.” Many of the different keywords assigned to this house can seem nasty at first glance, so people tend to naturally think having (whatever) planet in the 12th house is automatically to their detriment. Though planets found in the 12th house of one’s natal chart aren’t necessarily easy, they certainly aren’t unilaterally negative and their placement in the 12th house has a purpose (usually to grow and evolve one in a spiritual way/on a soul level).

    Of the houses in the natal chart, the 12th house is one of my favorites to explore (along with the 4th house, but I’ll get around to that one later). This house is typically given keywords like “karma,””empathy and compassion,” “escape,” “the womb/mother’s labor experience,” “the unconscious,” “spirituality”, “prisons/imprisonment,” “hidden enemies,” “serve or suffer,” and the ever fear inducing “the house of self-undoing.” Unfortunately, in my experience people tend to focus far too much on the negative keywords and not enough on the positive ones. This house has a magical sort of quality to it, especially in terms of all the spirituality and compassion that can be found dwelling here (and even more so once the native has begun evolving beyond the more difficult traits of this house).

    All the planets that live in this house live under a sort of fog, a veil, in the unconscious. None of the planets and their planetary energies are easily accessible here in an overt and conscious way, and this is where I believe the keywords “hidden enemies” and “prisons/imprisonment” come into play. Of course, both of those keywords could be taken literally, but I’ve never really read them that way (unless there were other clear aspects in the chart to indicate some type of imprisonment of the person/some kind of enemy hidden in the shadows). Let’s say that you have your Moon in the 12th House. That’s a tough place for the Moon to take up residence. Since the Moon rules our emotions, having your Moon under the fog of this house may make someone not understand their own feelings and emotions about things as easily. They know they have these certain feelings, can sense them on an unconscious/unseen level, but can’t consciously (easily) figure out clearly why they feel the way do. This would, I imagine, cause the person to feel imprisoned by their own emotions, by their Moon. Almost as if the 12th House is holding that planetary energy hostage, not letting it leave it’s grasp. The same sort of thing could be said about “hidden enemies.” The planet and planetary energy that is in this house could explode in more destructive ways, thus turning that person’s own planetary placement against the native, becoming an enemy of the chart holder. Again, for example, the Moon in the 12th may cause someone to have emotional outbursts at inappropriate times, in inappropriate ways, directed at the “wrong” person, and for the “wrong” reasons (how this would manifest would really also depend on the aspects made to the planet, what sign the planet was in, etc).

    The 12th House is thought to be associated with the karma that we bring with us from past life, as well as karma that we may incur during this lifetime. Honestly, I’m not sure how I feel about THIS particular thing. Can the 12th House be karmic? Absolutely. Do I ALWAYS take the karmic approach when reading this house? No. If I were to go the karmic route with this house after taking the whole chart into consideration, here is how I would carry on with that train of thought: The notion of karma can be both good and bad (we need to keep this in mind first and foremost). The aspects the planet(s) in the 12th House make with different planetary bodies in the chart are an indicator of how the karma functions. Since planets and their energy/traits that fall in the 12th House aren’t as easily accessible to the native and are covered by a sort of fog, there is a theory that planets that that reside here in a natal chart do so for karmic purposes. For example, let’s say you have Mars in the 12th House. In a past life maybe you misused your drive, ambition, and aggression towards the more negative side of the spectrum. In this life, maybe you decided (or it was decided for you) that your Mars would fall here as a way of making this energy less accessible to you, thus making it harder to misuse it in this lifetime. Since Mars here lives under the fog that covers this house, it could incline one to have a difficult time overtly expressing those Martian energies like drive, ambition, aggression, and even anger. This would sort of balance out the karma accrued from the abuse of those energies in a past life (or past lifetimes).

    Another interesting notion about the 12th House is the idea that the planets that find themselves here in the natal chart can represent what the native’s own mother’s pregnancy with them was like. For example, Neptune in the 12th can indicate that the chart holder’s mother’s pregnancy was also kind of under a fog of sorts/possibly something unclear here about her feelings at the time (and it’s also possible that her life at that time was unclear). Maybe she wasn’t quite sure how she felt about the entire situation of being pregnant, impending motherhood and the like. Maybe she had never planned to be a parent at all (but found herself becoming one)? Maybe there was something unclear and uncertain about her life situation at the time she was pregnant that put a haze over her pregnancy? The closer that planet (or planets) is to the Ascendant (I’d use a 10 degree orb or less here), the more likely that/those planet(s) are telling the story of the native’s birth/the native’s mother’s labor. Does the native have Saturn in the 12th House within a 10° orb of the Ascendant? This could indicate that their mother’s labor with them was long, and possibly difficult in someway. As an aside, Saturn here conjunct the Ascendant can indicate that the native themselves wasn’t ready to be reborn into this incarnation; their soul was resistant to come back and do the whole “living on earth thing” again.

    The keywords of “The House of Self-Undoing” and “Serve or Suffer” to describe the 12th House are my personal favorites to try and decipher. While the keywords certainly sound very doom and gloom, I tend not to see them as such. The 12th House is where one shed’s their ego; Ego doesn’t exist here. I actually tend to believe that it is the “self-undoing” (and the “serve or suffer”) keywords that tend to liberate ones from the fog of this house. One of the very best ways to work through the planetary energy in this house is by channeling that typical planetary energy into the 6th House. (I actually believe this to be true for any difficult planetary energy in any house, but specifically for the 6th/12th House Axis.) Since planetary energy in the 12th House is more hidden and one may not even really know what energy to channel into the 6th House, I would suggest learning/reading about said 12th House planet, but learn about it in the 6th House as well. For example, if you have Venus in the 12th House, you may have a harder time easily and naturally showing expressions of love to those around you; there may be some kind of blockage in being able to do so. The way to work through that might be to become actively aware of this, and become of some sort of service towards those you love and other people as well (generally in some way which you spread positivity, beauty, and love to those who need it most). By being of service to others (regardless of the planet in the 12th house), the native is able to work through the fog of those 12th House planets which helps them to see the planet and its energy in a more clear and open way. By working through this energy (these energies), you are essentially “un-doing” yourself. Undoing the natural way/programming that you unconsciously use to handle the energy of the planet(s) that live there, so that you can use this/these planet(s) in a conscious way. Sometimes we must all “un-do” ourselves to grow and evolve into something better, into a higher state of being.

  • Natal North Node at 0 degrees Aries

    Natal North Node at 0 degrees Aries

    Charts where the natal north node is at 0-degrees Aries…..these charts absolutely fascinate me. This is because when you have your north node at 0-degrees Aries, your draconic chart is exactly the same as your natal chart. Since the nodal axis deals with the soul (what the soul is comfortable & familiar per the south node and one of the soul missions in this lifetime per the north node), it would stand to reason that this type of situation would cause THIS lifetime to be very important to the native (along the course of ALL the lifetimes that the native experiences). What could this mean? Lets explore some ideas 🙂

    *Natal North Node at 0 degrees Aries*

    When a person has their natal north node at 0-degrees Aries, this causes ones draconic chart to look the same as their natal chart; all of the planets and aspects are conjunct when doing an overlay between the two charts. The closer that your natal north node is to 0-degrees Aries, the more similar the natal and draconic charts will appear. In the context of a this blog post I’m talking about people who have their natal north node either at 0-degrees Aries or conjunct the Aries Point within 5 degrees applying & separating. There are some theories that I have about what this can mean for the person who has this in their natal chart (and mind you, these are all just theories that feel like they might be right). When studying these types of charts together there isn’t a whole lot out there … so I figure I’d throw my ideas out there into the fray. 

    I have seen it mentioned various places that having your Natal North Node at the Aries Point could mean things like:
    -Since the Aries point is considered the beginning of a new cycle, it could mean this is your first incarnation in this realm, or that even though you’re soul is in this realm, you have somehow ascended to another level of consciousness in this lifetime (thus starting a new cycle, but not being a “new” soul).
    -People that have their north node at 0 degrees Aries are essentially getting a “do-over” life in this incarnation. Since some astrologers believe that the draconic chart is the natal chart of ONLY the native’s most recent past life, it would make sense to think that maybe both charts (the natal & draconic) are the same because something happened in their past life to where they weren’t able to complete their souls mission that time around, that something cut that lifetime short. Thus getting the opportunity in this life to be the same kind of person to try and rectify this and complete their soul’s mission from the previous lifetime.
    -The Aries Point holds a lot of power in general, and having ones north node here may incline the person to have a powerful sort of destiny that their soul wishes to act on and act out in this lifetime……if they choose to act on this destiny and desire, that is.
    *All of the above seem reasonable to me. However, my ideas are below*

    It seems that when one has this position in their natal chart, it causes the person to be exactly who and what they are on a soul level (the good and the bad and everything in between). There is no ‘natal-chart-of-this-lifetime-mask’ to be worn here; these people get the divine opportunity in this lifetime to be exactly as they really are. This makes a lot of sense (to me anyway), since I feel that the natal chart is the chart for a particular lifetime in human form, but the draconic chart is the chart for the soul across all time and space. There is a real vulnerability to this position that I have instinctively sensed, because like it or not… you are who you are. The people that I have known with this placement (and I’ve come into contact with several (myself included)) tend to be “what you see is what you get” kind of people, and this does appear to intensify the closer to exact their natal north node is to 0-degrees Aries. I also feel that for these people this particular life is of paramount importance in their soul’s evolution, and where this evolution is supposed to take place will depend on the house the natal north node finds itself in (and of course, any aspects made). If the north node is one of the soul’s main missions for this lifetime, and the draconic chart is the chart of a native’s soul across all lifetimes, then it would make sense to me that in this lifetime the person is supposed to really accomplish things that the person really wants (on a soul level). 

    -Something to take note of here: the nodal axis is retrograde more often than it is direct. If you use the mean node it will always average out retrograde. If you use the true node will bounce around between retrograde and direct (but it will be retrograde more often). Because of retrograde motion here, the END is 0-degrees Aries and the beginning is 29-degrees Pisces. This makes me think that there is definitely a beginning and end thing going on in this lifetime for these people (perhaps something both ending and starting up in this current incarnation).

  • Draconic Charts

    I’m going to be starting this blog off with a bang, talking about a subject within Astrology that I absolutely love. 🙂

    Draconic Charts….they are absolutely fascinating. The idea behind them is that one’s Natal Chart is the native’s chart of this lifetime (obviously), but the Draconic Chart is the chart of the native’s actual soul, and it’s incredibly karmic. There actually seems to be some debate here as to if the Draconic Chart is the native’s chart of their most recent past life, of any single previous past life, or if it shows the chart of the native’s soul over multiple life times and the souls true nature in its purest form.  I tend to believe the last one…..something about that explanation just feels right. Using that as my definition of what a Draconic Chart is, lets begin.

    First off, these charts date back to Ancient Babylonia (so they would fall under the umbrella of “old as fuck” astrology). There was a long swath of history where they were not commonly used, but are now seeing an increase in popular usage (as they should, they are incredibly useful). Draconic, in Latin, translates loosely to something being Dragon-like. This something that is Dragon-Like are the Nodes of the Moon in the Draconic Chart (and the Nodes in the Natal Chart). The North Node is said to be the head of the dragon and the South Node is said to be the tail of the dragon.  In these charts, the 0 degree Aries point is paramount, because this Chart is based on the place where the Moon crosses the elliptic from North to South, thus making the 0 degree Aries point the traditional North Node position for these charts. The Aries point is said to symbolize a point of taking action and new beginnings.

    In someone’s own Draconic Chart, the placement of their own Natal North Node aligns with and becomes that 0 degrees Aries Point. For example, if  your Natal North Node is at 20 degrees Taurus, this placement in the Draconic Chart becomes 0 degrees Aries and everything will shift over some. The aspects in your Draconic Chart remain the same as in your natal chart, but the houses will be ruled by different signs due to the shifting and the degrees of the planets and the signs they are ruled by may change. This could cause someone who Nataly has their Moon in Virgo to have their Moon in Cancer in their Draconic Chart. The closer your Natal North Node is to 0 degree Aries, the less your Draconic chart will shift. The further your Natal North Node is from 0 degree Aries, the more your chart will shift. It is because of this shifting that some people may happen to identify with their Draconic Charts more than their Natal Chart. Some people don’t feel that their Natal Chart is “them,” and it tends to be those people that heavily identify with their Draconic Chart…..it just tends to feel more like them somehow. Maybe your Sun is in Libra in your Natal Chart, but that has never felt quite right. However, when you look at your Draconic Chart you find your Sun falls in Pisces and that just feels more like you. (The opposite could also be true, that the Draconic Chart doesn’t feel like you at all, you feel completely in tune with your Natal Chart). And what could that mean?

    Since I believe that the Draconic Chart is the chart of the Soul over all lifetimes, of the soul’s true nature, then (just spit balling here, feel free to disagree) I might assume that those who identify somewhat or strongly with their Draconic Charts possibly are more in-tune (at least somewhat consciously or unconsciously), or more aware of their soul’s true nature, whatever that true nature actually is. Possibly then, those that don’t identify with their Draconic Charts at all maybe aren’t as in-tune or aware with/of the true nature of their souls. This isn’t a bad thing (so please don’t take it that way). Maybe in this life, for some reason, the person wasn’t supposed to identify with their soul’s true nature. Maybe they were supposed to be solely focused on this life (thus possibly identifying strongly with their Natal Chart), and not aware of their souls true desires, where they have come from and what they have been through across time and space. Maybe this is implemented to shield or protect the person in some way, for some reason.

    This post is getting longish already, so I will proceed on to my next points about Draconic Charts in another post. Such as how to possibly interpret them and what it could possibly mean when your Draconic Chart and your Natal Chart look the same…..which happens when someone’s Natal North Node is at 0 degrees Aries.

    *As an aside, there is some debate on which to use for calculation purposes; some astrologers swear by the MEAN North Node, and some swear by the TRUE North Node. Personally, I use the TRUE North Node, but to each its own :)*
