  • Chiron in the Natal Chart or: “I’ll need some information first, just the basic facts, can you show me where it hurts?” Houses 1-4

Chiron (the wounded healer) in the natal chart shows where our source of deepest wounding is in our lives. This wounding usually occurs during one’s childhood (what are supposed to be the happiest days of our lives have a tendency to fuck us up the worst), and it is a deep wound that never quite heals itself completely or correctly. Ironically enough, we are usually quite skilled at healing and helping OTHER people in the very way that we ourselves are wounded……we just have a hard time helping and healing ourselves. This all goes back to Chiron in mythology. The quick and dirty version of events goes as follows: Chiron is wounded by Hercules on accident with arrows coated in Hydra blood, and the wounds made by these arrows caused wounds that would never totally heal (and were quite painful). Chiron being immortal (a product of rape (his first wounding) and the offspring of Kronos and Philyra) meant that he could never die, but those wounds from the arrows would also never heal. Chiron wasn’t able to be released from his wounds until he took the place of Prometheus. Prometheus was chained to a rock by Zeus for his crime and had his liver eaten by an eagle daily, his liver then healed, and the bird would come back the next day to start the process over. By taking Prometheus’ place, Chiron was then made mortal and was finally able to die and be released from his wounds.
……yeah, a depressing fucking story. Good news is that it doesn’t take death to release us of from our Chiron wounding in this lifetime. Just like in the mythology of Chiron taking one for the team for Prometheus, the way to handle and heal our own Chiron is to help other people that find themselves in similar sorts of circumstances of where we ourselves our wounded. The only way to work our Chiron out is work THROUGH it, and the best way to work through it is by helping and healing someone/something else.

Chiron in the First House: Chiron here in the 1st house causes the native’s wounding to have something to do with their concept of the self. This person may not feel completely comfortable in their own body, with their own characteristics and traits. Self-esteem, independence, aggression, and drive can all be lacking in some capacity (and usually also damaged or suppressed in some way). There can also be wounding regarding the natives physical appearnace, such as being unhappy with the way they look due to some real or imagined difference physically. There can also be a history of actual wounding that happened to the native’s physical body by way of accident, another person, or even the native themselves. Chiron in the 1st makes whatever is sounding to the person very apparent to other people and to the native themselves (nothing “hides” easily in the 1st house, unless there is something different going on with this house, like an intercepted house). The wounding that is very much wrapped up in their sense of self somehow can leave them an open target for bullies and other assholes. These people are usually very good at building up other people’s self-esteem though, and possibly even standing up for people who find themselves in a similar wounding-boat as the native. By operating this way, the native is able to help themselves with healing their own concepts of the self.

Chiron in the Second House: Chiron here in the natal chart will cause some kind of wounding dealing with the native’s personal possessions (or lack of), with their values and value system (or lack of), and with their security (or lack of). Especially security. In childhood (because this wounding probably stems from here), the native may have felt that their lives weren’t secure in some way. The aspects that Chiron makes in one’s chart will give you a better idea of the way this insecurity manifested. (Maybe their home life was unreliable? Maybe they were’t secure in their relationships with their parents in some way?) This insecurity could very easily stem from a lack of money in the family in childhood and lack personal possessions that could be afforded for the native. This lack of personal possessions could’ve been necessities that the native actually needed but the family couldn’t afford (such as proper fitting coat in winter), or it could’ve just been things that the native really wanted but couldn’t have due to them being too expensive (such as wanting a new coat, but having to wear a hand-me-down because the family couldn’t afford a new option). Because of the stuff mentioned before, this could cause some screwiness with the native’s value system, placing too high of a premium on money and “things.” A good way to work through Chiron here in the 2nd is to give things and money to other people in some way (people that find themselves in situations similar to those you were in during childhood). By helping others with even less than yourself, you will help to heal your own wounds.

Chiron in the Third House: Chiron in the 3rd House has to do with a deep wounding typically revolving around communication, the way the native learns/the mind, and possibly even the native’s siblings and early school experience. There could’ve been some kind of difference in the way that the native processed the information that they learned in school, which could’ve been a source of problems and pain for the person (especially if parents and teachers were always on the native’s ass about not learning and thinking like “everyone else.”) I’m not even talking about a “learning disability” here (that would be better seen by the aspects made by Chiron in the 3rd to Mercury)……I just mean someone who thinks, processes, and learns things differently than other people. The native may have also been a shy child who didn’t easily speak up or speak their opinions regularly. Maybe the person was derided and bullied by siblings and teachers when they tried to communicate, or maybe there was an actual physical reason that communication didn’t happen as easily for the native. A person with Chiron here would probably make a good teacher themselves(elementary-high school is 3rd House territory). In a position like this, they would be able to care for their students and nurture their minds, learning, and communication in a way that theirs were not.

Chiron in the Fourth House: With Chiron falling in a person’s 4th house, the deep wounding here tends to revolve around their family & home (the one they were born into), their roots & ancestry, and the most private parts of themselves. There can be a lot of trauma and wounding concerning the way the native was raised and with the family that they were raised by. This trauma and wounding could’ve even started before you were aware enough to realize what was going on around you, but still consciously absorbing all the strife disharmony around you and putting it in a deep pocket of your consciousness. There could’ve been a lot of turmoil in the early home environment, from watching pain and discord occur between your parents/caregivers, to your family life not feeling secure in some way, to actually being separated from or abandoned by your parents/caregivers (or one of them) for some reason. Different aspects made to Chiron here will give you a better idea of what kind of turmoil existed, and why. These wounds connected to early family & home life can spill over into the home & family that the native tries to create for themself when the time comes for that. If the time ever comes for that; someone with Chiron in this house may completely try to go a different way than the typical family due to their own upbringing being so difficult. These people have a lot of empathy though, and this empathy would be best served towards something like helping children that have grown up in difficult circumstances similar to their own. By helping those that are going through what they have lived through, they will be able help to heal themselves.

  • Moon/Mercury Contacts of the “Harder” Variety

A question that I get asked often has to do with mental illnesses/mental differences, and if I’m able to see things like that in the natal chart. The answer to this particular question is yes and no. The natal chart is like a blueprint of possibilities for the person (and the soul) in this lifetime. Just because something “difficult” shows up in one’s natal chart regarding mental illness (or anything, really) doesn’t necessarily mean that the person will ever manifest that particular difficult energy into reality. Though, if the propensity *is* there for mental illness to occur, whether or not it actually occurs depends on a number of factors (such as biology, environment, and nurturing), as well as heavier transits hitting the aspect in question, thus activating it. Since I am specifically talking about mental illnesses & mental differences, certain aspects made between The Moon and Mercury (specifically the square, opposition and conjunction) seem to cause people some issues in the areas of mental health. The specific types of mental health issues that these hard aspects between Mercury and Uranus tend to produce are anxiety (either full blown or just some general nervousness), and moodiness (all the way to the extreme end of the spectrum with intense mood swings). This is a trend that I have noticed time and time again, and I suppose the part of me that finds mental health and psychology fascinating wanted to discuss it

**Just for a bit of reference……Mercury is essentially the mind of the natal chart, where we think and learn in a concrete way, and where we communicate. It is traditionally quick and logical. The Moon represents our feelings and our emotions.**
***Also, as a disclaimer, I am in no way, shape, or form saying that people automatically have mental issues and differences by default when they have these harder aspects in their natal charts. I’m only saying that the possibility could exist of something like generalized anxiety disorder occurring in their life if one of these aspects is in the natal chart of the person. Just want to make that part really, really clear.***

Moon/Mercury Conjunction: Out of all the harder aspects in this post, this is usually the easiest for the native to carry. With the Moon and Mercury in conjunction, this causes a natural merging of the mind and the emotions. The typically rational mind may have a more emotional bent to it here, and this can cause some confusion for the person. They may become overly attached to things (especially things having to do with the house where this conjunction falls). There is also usually an above average emotional intelligence that these people possess which helps them to communicate with other people (and to communicate internally with themselves). Mercury tends to be more anxious and nervous by default, and the Moon here feels this, making the person possiby more emotionally and mentally anxious. You may also be more emotionally sensitive as well, for your emotions here are very changable; the Moon is changable anyway, and so is Mercury. This can add to this anxiety you may feel, as well as any anxiety that you feel from being an emotionally sensitive person. Anxiety can also creep into the native’s mind and life when the merging of the two planets causes conflict. There are times to use your emotions and times to use your rational mind (and then times to merge the two), and the key here is figuring out how to pull one or the other out and use them independently. The tighter the conjunction here, the harder this will be to do.

Moon/Mercury Opposition: With the Moon and Mercury in opposition, this can cause there to be natural tug of war between your emotions and your rational mind. Issues can creep up dealing with how you process and think about your own emotions. There can be an over emotional quality to this aspect, and also an over rationalization (though not usually in tandem, until the native gets a handle on these energies). There will be times that you will be pulled more towards Mercury, and times that you will be pulled more towards the Moon, and it will be be an situational appropriate match. This can also end up happening in the opposite way that it should, such as you should really be operating through Mercury and your rational mind in a certain situation, but the Moon takes over instead, so you operate out of emotion instead. There can also be some general moodiness (to intense mood swings) and changability in thought because both planets want to have their own way here and aren’t operating in harmony. There could also be some issues with how to communicate with people, and when to do this, and what to communicate. This disharmony naturally can cause quite a lot of anxiety in the person and moodiness (even more than with the conjunction). They key to this aspect and tempering the anxiety that comes along with it is finding the balance between The Moon and Mercury, and knowing when to use one or the other (or when to use both at once).

Moon/Mercury Square: Out of all the harder aspects in this post, this one is by far the most difficult to deal with. The square is constant tension, so with this aspect there is probably a constant tension between the person’s rational mind and their emotions. This can cause the native to be incredibly anxious concerning their own emotions and emotional state and how they process these. Decision making can be incredibly difficult for the person, especially if either the head or the heart needs to be used exclusively for the decision to occur. The person knows that this tension between the two exists (even if it isn’t on a conscious level), and naturally has some difficulty in this area. Communication may not always be as effective, either. This can be communication that the person has internally with themselves, or it can be communication that the person has with other people. They may have difficultly really expressing how they feel and why to other people, and have difficulty understanding their feeling themselves. This tends to rear its head most often in intimate one-on-one relationships/familial relationships, where people are more likely to need to share and communicate their emotions and feelings freely. The mood swings here can be on a much grander scale, as can the anxiety that they may feel. If any of this is prevalent in the life of the person, it is very important that they consciously are aware of when to operate out of one planet or the other. By operating in spite of the tension, they are able to ease a lot of the anxiety and moodiness that may naturally accompany it.

  • Mercury/Saturn Aspects of the “harder” variety

Questions that I get asked often have to do with mental illnesses/mental differences/learning differences, and if I’m able to see things like that in the natal chart. The answer to this particular question is yes and no. The natal chart is like a blueprint of possibilities for the person (and the soul) in this lifetime. Just because something “difficult” shows up in one’s natal chart regarding mental illness, learning differences, or anything really, doesn’t necessarily mean that the person will ever manifest that particular difficult or different energy into reality. Though, if the propensity *is* there for mental illness or learning differences to occur, whether or not it actually occurs depends on a number of factors (such as biology, environment, and nurturing), as well as heavier transits hitting the aspect in question, thus activating it. Since I am specifically talking about mental illnesses/mental differences/learning differences, certain aspects made between Mercury and Saturn (specifically the square, opposition and conjunction) seem to cause people some issues in the areas of mental health and information processing/learning. The specific types of issues that these hard aspects between Mercury and Saturn tend to produce are being overly critical of oneself, overly restricting the things that one says, possible learning differences dealing with information processing (though these people are usually very smart regardless), and depression/depressive ways of thinking.

Saturn tends to represent hard work, perseverance, seriousness, and yes, restriction.
***Also, as a disclaimer, I am in no way, shape, or form saying that people automatically have mental issues and learning differences by default when they have these harder aspects in their natal charts. I’m only saying that the possibility could exist of something like depression occurring in their life if one of these aspects is in the natal chart of the person. Just want to make that part really, really clear.***
***Also as a disclaimer, I am in no way saying that learning differences are mental illnesses, and I never would. I only lump them together here because these harder Mercury/Saturn aspects can cause either/or; this aspect can indicate the possibility of one or both of these manifesting in the life of the native. To know for sure which (or both) are actually a possibility in someone’s life, you would need to take the whole chart into consideration. ***

Mercury/Saturn Conjunction: This conjunction blends the energies of Saturn and Mercury together, and depending on how tight the conjunction is, it may be quite hard to discern them from one another (the tighter the conjunction, the harder this will be). Saturn here can cause Mercury (communication and thought) to be more serious, more focused, and possibly more restricted. This restrictive influence could cause one to really censor what they have to say (and sometimes this could be to the native’s benefit, depending on other aspects in the chart). If it isn’t a good thing though, this can make the person extremely cautious about what they say, how they say it, and who they say things to/speak with in general. There can be issues with communicating anything at all, but especially things dealing with the native themselves, and their own emotions (and this will be magnified even more if the Moon is somehow tied to this conjunction/depending on other aspects). Because this aspect causes one to be more serious-minded, it is important that they stay mentally busy and of productive use. Being overly negative in thought and thought patterns is definitely a possibility here if Saturn isn’t kept productive and the mind is allowed to stay idle too long. All of the above can give the mind more of a depressive bent. But unlike the opposition and the square, all of this will feel natural to the native; there is no tug-of-war or tension feeling with the conjunction aspect.

Mercury/Saturn Opposition: This opposition shows up in people that are incredibly smart, but there may be issues in how you communicate and think about everything that you know and want to share. The ability that you have to censor yourself may not feel as natural here in the sense that there may be a tug-of-war quality about it; there may be times that you know it would be in your best interest to NOT censor yourself, and can see what you need to do to not do this, but there can be issues in actually acheiving this and not doing it. Because of this, I feel that this is the one of these three aspects where anxiety can creep in. There can also be a real tug of war in terms of the way that you process information and learn new things. Mercury wants to learn things quickly and wants to share this newly learned information just as fast, but Saturn here in opposition says “hold up, let me really take in this new information I’ve learned.” While extremely smart, you may not process things quite as quickly or in as fluid a way as other people at times, which can leave you feeling less than. The same thing can be said about the way that you communicate this information; it may be a little slower (and you may even speak slower, more deliberately, when you do speak), as a way of really getting your thoughts across in a clear manner. Too much self-censoring, and feeling less than, can leave you feeling depressed. This possible depressive inclination is exacerbated by the seriousness of the mind here, and it’s inclination to lean more towards the “negative.” Learning to consciously balance the mind here, (kind of consciously allowing Mercury & Saturn to come through at times), as well as giving yourself grace to operate differently from other people (we are all unique!) is key here.

Mercury/Saturn Square: Out of all these aspects, this one is probably the most difficult to have in your natal chart. There is no merging here, no give and take, just pure tension all the time, and one has to learn to live and operate in spite of this tension. Mercury is quick, wanting to take in everything that it can learn and always curious. Saturn never really wants to give in to Mercury here, and is constantly “restricting”. At the same time, Mercury never really wants to slow down enough to appease Saturn. Having this aspect can cause some real issues with a lack of self-confidence, shyness (and possibly even loneliness) due to this lack of self-confidence, negative/depressive thought patterns, and a variety of learning differences. Because of Mercury and Saturn not ever seeing eye to eye here with this aspect, the mind (while again, usually very intelligent), may need extra time to really catch up and process in some way. You may have a different way of needing to learn certain concepts (nothing wrong with that, we’re all different!), and one of the ways to take on the challenge of this aspect is to embrace this about yourself if it happens to be the case in your life. The censoring that you can do to yourself here in regards to how you actually communicate can be crippling. It is massively important for any depression that you may suffer from, or for any intense shyness and loneliness that results from this, that you actually do force yourself to communicate your thoughts to the world. I’m not saying you have to turn into Chatty Cathy with anyone and everyone, but communicating when you have knowledge that you want to share (of which you have oodles), or something that you really want to say…..try just saying it. You could start out doing this with people that love you and have your best interest at heart, and slowly widening your circle. By just dipping your feet into the shallow end of communication, you may find that some of the depression, self-criticism, and loneliness that you may suffer from are alleviated some.

  • Mercury and Uranus Aspects of a “Harder” Variety in a Natal Chart

Since I am specifically talking about mental illnesses & mental differences, certain aspects made between Mercury and Uranus (specifically the square, opposition and conjunction) seem to cause people some issues in the areas of mental health. The specific types of mental health issues that these hard aspects between Mercury and Uranus tend to produce are anxiety (either full blown or just some general nervousness), ADHD, all the way over to schizophrenia (among other things). This is a trend that I have noticed time and time again, and I suppose the part of me that finds mental health and psychology fascinating wanted to discuss it 🙂
**Just for a bit of reference……Mercury is essentially the mind of the natal chart, where we think and learn in a concrete way, and where we communicate. It is traditionally quick and logical. Uranus goes far beyond the concrete mind and basic logic in a lightening fast, revolutionary, sometimes shocking and universal way. **
***Also, as a disclaimer, I am in no way, shape, or form saying that people automatically have mental issues and differences by default when they have these harder aspects between Mercury and Uranus in their natal charts. I’m only saying that the possibility could exist of, say something like, generalized anxiety disorder occurring in the native’s life if one of these harder Mercury to Uranus aspects is in the natal chart of the person. Just want to make that part really, really clear.***

Mercury and Uranus in a Conjunction: Conjunctions naturally fuse together the energy of two planets, and they don’t usually operate independently of one another, if they are able to operate independently at all. You would be able to tell this from the orb of the conjunction; the tighter it is, the more fused together they are and the less of a possibility of them operating independently. Here you have two planets that actually very much like one another and get along, but they are both vying for the attention of the native, trying to make their independent presence known and express themselves. If any planet wins out in their bid for attention, it is usually Uranus; Uranus likes to shock and stun. There is usually a lot of nervous and anxious energy with this conjunction due to both planets being so quickly mentally inclined. Mercury, while fast, is pushed way beyond its regular quickness capacity with Uranus here. There may even end up being some jumbling and scattering of thought processes at times, and communication could be a little screwy, due to how quickly both think about things, and how quickly they desire to say what they think. The conjunction between Mercury and Uranus is (probably) the easiest of the “harder” aspects to work with. Depending on other factors (such as “positive or negative” aspects to this conjunction) in one’s natal chart, this conjunction could produce someone with a really genius and visionary mind, or someone who is quite genuis and visionary but can’t slow their mind down enough to make sense of their thoughts and communicate them effectively.

Mercury and Uranus in an Opposition: With any opposition aspect, there is a natural “push/pull” or tug-of-war that occurs between the planets. One planet wants to do things it’s way by sign and house, and the other planet wants to do things it’s way by the opposite sign and house. There can be a real frustration here; Since these planets do naturally like each other there can be some irritation between the two with each one trying to get the other to come over to “their” side of things (and not understanding why the other planet won’t play along with them). Both are very quick, so the tug-of-war nature of this aspect can cause the person to feel incredibly mentally scattered, and quite frankly, at times mentally worn out. This can be quite anxiety producing for the native since both planets are so quick. There is a lot of great potential here for the genuis inside the person to emerge if they can learn to balance the energy between Uranus and Mercury in their natal chart. Knowing when to utilize the visionary, off-beat, and mentally light years ahead qualities of Uranus, and when to utilize the concrete mind and effective communication of Mercury. The balance is actually possible here, though it will take a lot of effort (and will be made easier or harder by way of the house and sign that each of the planets fall in). It may even end up feeling like less of a balance between the planets, and more like them “calling a truce.” However you want to think of this, once you acheive this you get both planets to quit their constant back and forth, and shut the fuck up….some of the time, at least.

Mercury and Uranus in a Square: With any square aspect, there is usually nothing but tension. This tension can either serve as a driving force in our lives (as something to overcome), or it can serve as a crippling agent. Mercury square Uranus operates exactly this way. Here you have someone who is unusually smart (possibly even brilliant or genius), but the square causes issues with how the person is able to easily manifest these qualities in reality. On one side of the square you have Uranus in all of its revolutionary glory, with all of its visionary ideas. On the other side you have Mercury trying to communicate and think as clearly and effectively as it can. Oh, and let’s not forget that both planets are trying to do their thing at a rapid pace. With the tension here, it can cause someone to not be able to clearly process their own thoughts and communicate all of their many ideas effectively. This can lead to massive amounts of disorganized, bizarre, and/or scattered thinking, massive amounts of anxiety (in the extreme this anxiety could fall over into the realm of paranoia), and to someone who is just labeled as quite eccentric. How lightly or severely these qualities appear in the life of the native will depend on the rest of their chart. The goal with this particular square aspect is learning how to operate inspite of these differences. The person with this aspect will probably have their own unique way of doing so (and figuring out what works and how easily it works will have a lot to do with easier or harder aspects in the chart made to these particular planets, and the houses and signs they fall under). Once the native release some of this tension by operating inspite of it in a functional way, they are able to really let all their real brilliance shine through.

  • Saturn in House Overlays (Houses 7 -12) in a Synastry Chart or: “I have a lesson for you, bitch.”

When looking at a particular planet in house overlays, the planet person will be affecting the house person with the energy of that particular planet, primarily in the area of life that the house in question deals with. In the case of this post, we’ll be looking at how Saturn in one person’s chart affects the other person’s chart by way of the house it falls in. Saturn is a teacher (not always an easy teacher, but a teacher none-the-less), and usually the lessons that it has to teach in Synastry have something to do with responsibility, restriction (not all restriction is bad all of the time), maturity, stabilization, and getting serious. Some people need the lessons that the Saturn person is in their lives to teach, and some don’t (it really depends on the natural inclination of the house person). For reference, below is an example of Saturn in House overlays. **This is strictly JUST looking at the energy between Saturn and the house that it falls in in synastry, not taking into account any other aspects (such as other planets in your partner’s house), which, of course will color how you will want to interpret everything.**

Example of Saturn in House Overlays in Synastry: The inner person’s (in blue) Saturn hitting the 8th House (almost the 9th House) of the outer person (in red). The red person’s Saturn hits the blue person’s 1st House. This is circled in yellow.

Your Saturn falling in your partner’s 7th House: The lesson that Saturn has to teach here are absolutely about commitment, responsibility, and staying power in intimate relationships. The synastry aspect of your Saturn falling in your partner’s 7th house can indicate a real responsibility and commitment that the planet person will bring out in the house person. Depending on other synastry aspects, these lessons may be welcomed by the house person (which can cause a real lasting and meaningful bond), or this planet’s energy may feel like an albatross around the house person’s neck. Even if the house person ends up feeling this way, there will still usually be a “sticking and staying power” with this relationship. There could even be a karmic component to this relationship, in terms of the house person really needing to learn these lessons from the Saturn person in this lifetime (or needing to pay back a debt of some kind in these areas of life).

Your Saturn falling in your partner’s 8th House: The placement of Saturn falling in your partner’s 8th house can be a difficult one to deal with in synastry (and made even more difficult depending on other aspects). Saturn here is trying to teach the house person how to be more responsible in matters regarding things like shared assets (especially if this is a romantic relationship). Saturn is also trying to teach the house person about letting go (since the 8th house rules over this domain); this planet kind of tries to clean house here (much like during a Saturn Return), trying to rid the house person of things that no longer serve them. This energy and letting go can be uncomfortable for the house person, especially if they aren’t ready to let these things go. The Saturn person could stir up fears within the house person that they’d rather not face or deal with. Depending on the other synastry aspects, the house person may allow the Saturn energy to do its business here, or may fight it tooth and nail.

Your Saturn falling in your partner’s 9th House: The placement of Saturn here can cause the house person to end up feeling restricted in some way in terms of what they believe and how they expand their horizons (both physically and mentally). Saturn isn’t trying to restrict really, but teach the house person a different (and probably what it feels is a more logical, responsible, and practical) way of thinking about these 9th house matters….though it may feel very stifling to the 9th house person. Depending on other aspects, it could play out where the 9th house person tries to help the Saturn person not be so restrictive in these areas of life. Or it could play out where you both fuse the 9th House and Saturn energies beautifully, coming up with your own unique take on things.

Your Saturn falling in your partner’s 10th House: Considering there are no major afflictions in the synastry chart, the placement of Saturn here in the other person’s 10th house can be a real powerhouse combination when dealing with matters in the more public spheres of life. The Saturn person can work as a real practical, persevering, and anchoring force behind helping the 10th house person to acheive what they want in their career, in their social standing, and with their public image. This placement could indicate people that work together in some capacity, or if they are in a romantic relationship, definitely have the capacity to work well with one another. If there are some “harsher” aspects between you two in other areas of the synastry chart (or to this house/to Saturn), it falling in your partner’s 10th house can indicate the two of you competing/being rivals of some kind, and causing the house person to work even harder for what they want. Thus, the lesson Saturn here teaches is all about hard work and achievement.

Your Saturn falling in your partner’s 11th House: The lesson that Saturn tends to teach here has to do with caution in group situations and being “choosy” about who one lets into their circle. Saturn falling in your partner’s 11th house can make the house person more aware and “picky” of who they allow into their friend orbit, causing them to express a certain caution they might not otherwise. It could also lead to some kind of restriction in regards to friends, such as the house person feeling like they can’t be around their friends, or can’t even have friends period (though this would be the most extreme form of this synastry aspect). This may not be a negative thing though, depending on the sorts of influences and friends in the house person’s life. It can also show a deep and committed friendship between the planet person and the house person. Like everything though, it all depends on other aspects in the synastry chart as to how this will play out.

Your Saturn falling in your partner’s 12th House: Saturn falling in your partner’s 12th house can be the ultimate teacher in terms of pulling things from the house person’s psyche/unconscious and into the physical reality. If there are no major 12th house/Saturn afflictions in the synastry chart, this could profoundly benefit the 12th house person (though it may not always feel comfortable). If the 12th house/Saturn are afflicted in the synastry chart, the Saturn person may have more depressive effect on the unconscious mind of 12th house person (such as the 12th house person feels kind of “down” when around the Saturn person, but they can’t really pinpoint why). Personally, I feel like this is a very karmic aspect to have with someone, since Saturn is naturally quite karmic, as is the 12th House. My guess would be that the two of you have some unfinished business of sorts, and depending on other aspects you would be able to tell if that unfinished business will be of the easy or hard variety.

You can find my synopsis for Houses 1-6 here:https://saturnseason.com/2019/02/13/saturn-in-house-overlays-or-i-have-a-lesson-for-you-bitch-houses-1-6/

  • Saturn in House Overlays (Houses 1 through 6) in Synastry or: “I have a lesson for you, bitch.”

Ahhhh, synastry! It’s quite interesting to look at synastry charts between two people, seeing the energy that both people bring into the relationship and how both of their energies interact with one another. I have a real interest in the house overlay part of synastry, which is when you look at a specific planet in your chart (say, Saturn) and see what house it falls inside of in your partner’s chart. Here is an example of what I’m talking about:

Person A (in blue) has their Saturn hitting the 8th House (almost into their 9th House) of Person B (in red). Person B’s Saturn is hitting Person A’s 1st House. Saturn in both charts is circled in Yellow.

When looking at a particular planet in house overlays in synastry, the planet person will be affecting the house person with the energy of that particular planet, primarily in the area of life that the house in question deals with. In the case of this post, we’ll be looking at how Saturn in one person’s chart impacts the other person’s chart by way of the house it falls in. Saturn is a teacher (not always an easy teacher, but a teacher none-the-less), and usually the lessons that Saturn has to teach in Synastry have something to do with responsibility, restriction (not all restriction is bad all of the time), maturity, stabilization, and getting serious. Some people need the lessons that the Saturn person is in their lives to teach, and some don’t (it really depends on the natural inclination of the house person). **This is strictly JUST looking at the energy between Saturn and the house that it falls in in synastry, not taking into account any other aspects (such as other planets in your partner’s house), which, of course will color how you will want to interpret everything.**

Your Saturn falling in your partner’s First House: You probably have a pretty stabilizing effect on the house person here (whether they want this stabilization is another question entirely). There may be a certain sort of restriction that the house person feels in regards to themselves when you are around. Maybe they feel they can’t be fully themselves in someway around you? Or maybe just by way of being in a relationship with you, the house person becomes more serious, more traditional, and more mature. Regardless of other aspects in the synastry chart to see if the house person considers these positive or negative attributes to acquire, the lesson Saturn teaches here is all about stabilizing and maturing the “self” of the house person.

Your Saturn falling in your partner’s Second House: You are probably in your partner’s life for many reasons, but a big one will be teaching them lessons about how to really work for what they value, and how to really work for what makes them feel secure. Also, you as the Saturn person could end up being what makes the house person secure, since Saturn has a tendency of acting as an anchor in the house it falls (there may be real security for the house person that you will “stick” around, thus making them secure). You may have a rather stabilizing effect on their financial situation, helping them to obtain what they want financially. Or you may help them to become more responsible in these areas of life and less wanton and devil-may-care.

Your Saturn falling in your partner’s Third House: I’ve always found this to be a somewhat difficult placement in house overlays, and that’s because Saturn here can cause some restriction in communication for the house person. This restriction can actually be a type of maturity in communication that the Saturn person is teaching in lesson form to the house person (maybe the house person needs to learn this lesson, restriction isn’t always a bad thing). The Saturn person can also cause the house person to think more seriously and more practically, causing a complete shift in their thought process. Or, if the house person is already more serious and realistically minded, it can cause them to go off the deep end with their seriousness and realism (which could cause the house person to become more depressively inclined).

Your Saturn falling in your partner’s Fourth House: The lesson that Saturn wants to teach here has to with anchoring one down, and sometimes this is welcome (and sometimes it isn’t). Saturn falling in your partner’s 4th house can either be a really good thing, or a bad thing. You can deeply effect the house person, causing them to feel stable and secure down to their very private core (since the 4th house is the most private part of the natal chart, along with the IC). If you happen to live with the house person, you may be a real stablizing presence in the person’s home life. Depending on other factors in your charts, Saturn falling in your partner’s 4th house could cause the house person to feel restricted at home, or cause them to feel more responsibility towards the home and private life than maybe they would like.

Your Saturn falling in your partner’s Fifth House: Your Saturn falling in your partner’s 5th house can cause you restrict or mature (depending on the house person and the way you look at it) the house person in areas revolving around self-expression, creativity, and joy. You may help them to become more practical in these areas of their life (such as helping them to be more practical in how they express themselves), or your energy may stifle them (such as stifling their creativity). If the the 5th house person is naturally inclined to gamble or take risks, you may cause them not to do this so much or so often. Children and the idea of having them are usually serious business, and if this is a romantic relationship there could be blockage or delay in this area of life, usually by way of Saturn’s energy on the house person.

Your Saturn falling in your partner’s Sixth House: Generally, Saturn is pretty comfortable in the 6th in House Overlays. Saturn here usually has a lesson to teach the house person in the areas of work, daily life and personal health. Saturn’s energy here wants to teach the house person to get serious about these areas of life, and to be practical and responsible. And depending on the house person, this could be a very welcome energy into their life. Saturn may help the house person to become serious about taking care of their physical body & health, to persevere while working (and to just work hard in general), and to be responsible in daily life. The one downside that I see here is the possibility of causing the house person to feel criticized in some way, especially if Saturn’s energy in this house isn’t welcome (or necessarily needed).

  • North & South Nodes along the Virgo/Pisces Axis

**In this post in the series, we will take the House that the North Node falls in out of the equation and just focus on what it means to have your North Node in a specific sign (and what it means to have the South Node in the polarity sign). Usually with things having to do with the Nodal Axis (and growing into our North Node), a catalyst occurs in our lives that edges us out of the comfort of the South Node and into the uncharted territory of the North. This catalyst could be something major and life changing (such as a death, marriage, or divorce), or even something much more minor. Something will kind of shake us internally, saying “Wake up, fucker. You’re supposed to move beyond this,” whatever the “this” in the situation is. Once this waking up occurs, you will begin to move towards the North Node. Though, in all my years of study, this period of waking up usually doesn’t occur until the person’s first Saturn Return, or after it.**

North Node in Virgo/South Node in Pisces: If you North Node falls in Virgo, that makes your North Node mission in this lifetime all about growing into routine, work, and service (though not necessarily completely selfless service). There is also supposed to be an emphasis on health, and of really taking care of your physical body and your mind. Learning to be practical, useful, and the idea of “perfection” will all probably come to the forefront. This life is all about living in the physical realm and having your feet planted firmly on the ground in reality. In past lives (or just a past life) with your South Node in Pisces, you were probably less interested in living your lives within the confines of the physical world/physical reality and more in tune and interested in the spiritual and intangible. There may have been a real lack of practicality (or even interest) when it came to everyday affairs and routines, instead focusing on things that were “greater than” and more universal. The service that you performed in the past was probably of the more selfless variety, and you may have either felt that you never got anything in return for this service or you were fine with performing this selfless service because it was for the universal good. Exploring the deepest parts of your own psyche (regardless of what this did to you) was more important than actually taking care of your body and mind in a rational and practical way. You may find that you are more drawn to these South Node themes in this lifetime, for they are usually where we are most comfortable naturally. However, we’re supposed to move away from the South Node (while taking the best parts with us) and evolve into the North Node. To me this placement translates as someone who is able to take the knowledge they feel and know about the universal, about the collective unconscious, and about what is “greater than” and use this to be of service and to help people that really need it in this incarnation. This service won’t be the selfless kind, for you will finally feel that you are getting something in return for your efforts (which will probably be a nice change of pace). You finally get to live your life in a practical way rooted in reality and routine (and this will help to quiet any internal chaos that you may feel from always wanting to dive so deep into your own unconscious & subconscious mind while neglecting your body and mind needs in the physical). Actually, I could see the catalyst here as having something to do with that chaos; maybe the way you are living your life day to day is too unrealistic and impractical, thus forcing you change something. Or maybe there is some kind of health scare from not taking care of your body and mind properly. In either of these hypothetical cases, you are forced to come into reality to deal with something, and thus the evolution into the North Node will begin.

North Node in Pisces/South Node in Virgo: Having your North Node in Pisces makes your North Node mission in this lifetime all about moving out of the world of mundane routine, of the physical, and of day to day reality. There will probably be more emphasis on really understanding and exploring the deepest parts of your psyche on an intangible and unconscious/subconscious level (as well as that of the collective unconscious). The idea of real selfless service was probably important for your soul to understand in this lifetime; the kind of service that you give because you know that it’s for the universal good to give it. Really though, the main part of this mission I feel has to do with becoming connected to the divine, the “greater than,” whatever that looks like and feels like to you, as well as embracing your very intuitive and healing nature. This positioning of the North Node makes spirituality of some sort that resonates with you of the utmost importance (your soul really wanted to understand all of this in this incarnation). With your South Node in Virgo you probably lived past lives (or a past life) strictly in the physical reality, never really caring or having time for exploring the more spiritual and intangible side of things. You cared much more about being practical, useful and efficient. Routines may have been everything to you and you may have really needed to follow one strictly to keep your world from “falling apart.” The same could be said about your physical health; if something wasn’t completely right or perfect with you physically (even something minor), your world was rocked. You definitely enjoyed serving others in previous lives, but it wasn’t just for the act of being of service (you received something in return for the work you put in, be that money or an ego boost or whatever). Even though you may be more comfortable in this lifetime living through these South Node themes (while taking the best parts with you), you are supposed to evolve into the North Node. I see this as manifesting as someone who is able to take all the helpfulness and efficiency that was learned from the Virgo South Node and really apply this into service for the collective good. There could also be a real gift with discernment in regards to seeking out the the notion of the “greater than,” or the divine; because of this discernment, you may be more able than most to really understand what feels true and right for you. It could also have to do with taking all your South Node knowledge in regards to the health of the physical and mental body, and funnel that towards healing other people in a more spiritual and intuitive way. I could definitely see the catalyst here having something to do with a health issue of some kind that doesn’t seem to respond to conventional medicine (nothing fatal, just something that bothers you and never seems to go away), so you seek out alternatitive forms of healing from others or even yourself. Or maybe the catalyst could be something that drastically changes how you view reality (and you possibly needing something more in your life than just reality), so you branch out into the intangible and the spiritual. Either of these situations could easily cause the evolution of the Pisces North Node to begin.

To flesh out the nodal axis story further (to get the whole picture), you will need to also consider where the planetary ruler of the North and South Nodes fall in the chart by sign, house, and aspects made. In the case of Virgo and Pisces you would be looking at Mercury and Jupiter & Neptune.

  • North & South Nodes along the Cancer/Capricorn Axis

North Node in Cancer/South Node in Capricorn: If your North Node falls in Cancer, this makes you North Node mission all about being of support to others and accepting that same support in return, learning how to be vulnerable, emotional and sensitive (and coming to terms with this side of yourself), and home/domestic life & family. With your South Node falling Capricorn, in a previous life/lives, you were probably in control of your emotions and vulnerability at all times; you didn’t freely express this side of yourself, even at times when you probably should have. There was also probably quite an emphasis on your career and ambitions (Oh! You were probably very ambitious!), as well as on your well crafted public persona. You probably really got off on being at the very top of the social echelon. There is also an element of authority here with Capricorn, and in previous lives you very well could’ve held some kind of authority by way of everything else mentioned (and probably got off on this, too). Even though some (or all) of these themes and areas of life may feel the most comfortable to you in this lifetime, you are supposed to move into your Cancer North Node. In this lifetime, you are supposed to dive headfirst into the more private spheres of life, to really understand yourself and your emotions and sensitivies, and allow them to freely show. This is all about possibly putting career ambitions behind those needs of caring for your family (either the one you are born into or the one you create for yourself). This can either mean just caring and nurturing your family in day to day life, but can also mean taking care of and nurturing sick or ailing family members. In previous lives you also took care of yourself, for yourself. In this lifetime, you’re supposed to move into not only being a supportive force for those you truly love and care about, but to also allow them to support you as well. I could imagine the catalyst towards moving into your Cancer North Node being something along the lines of either having your own child or having to care for a loved one for a period of time. Before this would happen, you would probably be more focused on those career ambitions and the more public areas of life. Once life kind of takes you a different way (possibly even by force or an unexpected situation), you would then begin to grow into the Cancer North Node.

North Node in Capricorn/South Node in Cancer: If your North Node ends up falling in Capricorn, this is the lifetime where you are supposed to be *very* ambitious in regards to your career aspirations. This is a lifetime that is meant to be lived in the public spheres of life, climbing that social ladder for the highest amount of social status obtainable, working your public presence to your advantage, as well as really harnessing your own personal authority that is wanting to come out (and being comfortable with it). You probably really wanted to get a firm grip on your emotions in this lifetime, and become more even-keeled in this respect (not letting them dominate and rule you). There is probably also a real soul desire to completely be able to take care of yourself (being completely self-sufficient), and not actually needing anyone else in that arena to do that for you. With Cancer as your South Node, in past life (or lives) you may have spent a great deal of time being the support and nurturing force for other people (especially in the domain of the home). You may not have cared very much for career and the ambitions that come with it, for climbing the social ladder, for if you had a “public persona” or not. Your life was very focused on the more private side of life. There may have also been issues with your own emotions, sensitivity, and vulnerability, and they may have manifested in a way that you couldn’t easily reel them in (or they were mis-used possibly somehow). And authority…..there probably wasn’t a whole lot of that which you actively crafted and used. There could have also been issues with you not being self-sufficient in previous lives, either by choice (such as your spouse worked so you didn’t), or because there was some actual physical/mental issue that kept you unable to fully fly on your own, meaning you needed constant support from other people. You may be naturally more drawn towards the South Node (things are usually more comfortable there), and may feel like the North Node soul mission doesn’t speak to you at all. A catalyst usually must occur first before it does “speak” to you, and I could see a catalyst here as being someone who has spent a great deal of their time in this current incarnation caring for other people (such as being a stay at home mom/dad). Something happens that forces you into getting a job/getting into a career, and this awakens the Capricorn North Node and would allow you to grow into it.

To flesh out the nodal axis story further (to get the whole picture), you will need to also consider where the planetary ruler of the North and South Nodes fall in the chart by sign, house, and aspects made. In the case of Cancer and Capricorn you would be looking at the Moon and Saturn.

  • Skipped Steps in the Natal Chart (and how to read them)

Skipped Steps in the Natal Chart (and how to read them)

Questions about past lives, the soul’s mission (or what a soul wants to accomplish this time around) and karma are always popular questions that I get regularly. Specifically, I tend to get asked about past life issues and karma that are needed to be dealt with in this lifetime, and how these issues might manifest in the current incarnation. There are different places to look in your natal chart (or any astrology chart, such as a synastry/composite chart) to to find unresolved karmic and past life elements, and one of the first place I look (after looking at the North & South Nodes and Pluto and its Polarity Point) is at any planets that may be making a square aspect with the North & South Nodes. If you have any planetary/celestial bodies squaring the Nodes, this is known as a “Skipped Step.” A Skipped Step is a planet(s), etc. that deal with unresolved issues that you have carried over from a previous lifetime (or lifetimes) into this lifetime. This may have been an issue (or issues) that you chose to willfully ignore in the past, or something that you didn’t recognize as an issue, or even something you just didn’t have the time in other incarnations to completely work out. Basically, there could be a whole bunch of reasons a planet might come around in this lifetime as a skipped step. You can have multiple planets square the Nodes (such as in the case of a Stellium square the Nodes, or even just planets in conjunction), you can have just one planet square the Nodes, and you can also have planets in opposition to one another that both square the nodal axis (in the case of the Grand Cross). Just to illustrate what Skipped Steps look like in a natal chart, here is an example:

Skipped Steps from my own Natal Chart (circled in white) and the nodal axis – The North Node in the 4th @ 0 Aries 17 is Square 1st House Venus @ 25 Sagittarius 40, Uranus @ 25 Sagittarius 26 (and by proxy, Saturn @ 21 Sagittarius 05), is square the South Node in the 10th House @ 0 Libra 17, is square Chiron @ 27 Gemini 25, is square the North Node.

Now, you may be looking at a chart that looks like my own, or you may be looking at one that doesn’t have the Grand Cross formation (but instead just one planet square the Nodes). I would keep the orbs tighter here with planets and other major celestial bodies square the Nodes. Generally speaking, that will be 5° applying or separating between the planet, etc. and the nodal axis. I say generally speaking because there are some cases where I would extend the orb when a planet squares the nodes. Any planet that doesn’t actually square the Node but conjuncts a planet that squares the Node will color the Skipped Step with that planets energy, thus ending up being square it to by proxy. An example of this is Saturn in my own chart above. It would technically be out of orb for me to consider it a Skipped Step on it’s own, but since it is in conjunction with Uranus and Venus, by proxy it becomes part of the Skipped Step theme. Depending on the planets and celestial bodies involved in the Skipped Step, you will be able to get an idea of what exactly was missed or not understood or integrated in your past life, and what you are really supposed to learn and understand in this life. The more planets involved in the this formation, the more possible it seems that these issues have been going on for many lifetimes. Even if they haven’t been going on for many lifetimes, in some lifetime tied to this one these planets (and what they want to express) have been avoided in some way, compounding and gaining interest. Because these are in a square formation, there is naturally tension that the native is probably unable to avoid or ignore in this lifetime. One way to help yourself along this journey is to look at the “Resolution Node,” which is essentially the Node (either the North or the South Node) that was last in conjunction with the planet (or planets) in the square formation. To do this turn the North Node/South Node Axis counter-clockwise in your mind to see what planet(s) in the square formation were last in conjunction with what Node. By doing this, you can get a better idea as to how you can resolve these Skipped Step(s) issues. To take an example from my own chart, I need to work through my Uranus, Venus (and Saturn) shit and I have to go back to the South Node to work through these issues (since the South Node was the last Node in conjunction with these planets). Since Chiron was last in conjunction with my North Node, I would be working through the Chiron Skipped Step with the North Node. Actually, in the case of a Grand Cross, usually you are working through both steps somehow simultaneously (and are cosmically forced too), just through the different Nodal energies.

You can also apply this same concept to synastry charts. If you have a Skipped Step (or Skipped Steps) in your own natal chart, look to see if your synastry partner has a planet/celestial body that conjuncts (specifically the conjunction aspect here) your skipped step(s). If this happens to be the case, this person is generally tied into your Skipped Step issue from a past life (perhaps they were actually IN your previous lifetime, or perhaps they are supposed to help you work through it in this lifetime, among other possibilities). The energy and way they are tied in depends on the planet of theirs that is in conjunction with your Skipped Step. There could be very strong feelings between the two of you (that you bring out in one another), but those feelings may or may not always “feel” good. How this actually manifests in real life depends on what the rest of the synastry looks like. The planet/celestial body person might force (even unconsciously) the skipped step person to acknowledge that skipped step planetary energy (and harness it).

More on all of this later 🙂 If you have any questions or comments, let’s talk! And if you would like for me to read your astrology chart (any kind of astrology chart) you can do that here. Also, for those of you who are watchers and not readers I have a whole bunch of videos on this subject on Saturn Season Astrology YouTube channel (just type Skipped Steps in the search on the channel and a bunch of stuff should come up).

  • North & South Nodes along the Gemini/Sagittarius Axis

**In this post in the series, we will take the House that the North Node falls in out of the equation and just focus on what it means to have your North Node in a specific sign (and what it means to have the South Node in the opposite sign).

North Node in Gemini/South Node in Sagittarius: If your North Node falls in Gemini, your North Node mission in this lifetime is all about the use of effective communication & language (both written and verbal). Also, you’re probably supposed to move into the realm of logic, reason, facts, details, curiousity, and using the more concrete side of you mind. With Sagittarius as your South Node, you probably had a past life (or past lives) where you operated primarily out of the abstract side of your mind. You may have also held very strong beliefs about things, almost zealous about them, (this could be any type of belief, but spiritual/religious beliefs seem to fit nicely here) but these beliefs and belief systems actually didn’t have any hard evidence to back them up. Sagittarius South Node people may also have an issue with pushy teaching or preaching with the way that they “teach” in this lifetime (in past lives it probably was more of the former than actually teaching). You may be more comfortable in with the philosophical (for the sake of being philosophical) and with the abstract, but in this lifetime, but you are supposed to move into the Gemini North Node (while taking the highest forms of the South Node qualities with you on your soul’s journey). Moving out of dogmatic beliefs and into beliefs that make sense in the physical world, that check out, and that you use logic and reason to get to your conclusions. As well as being able to communicate them effectively. Moving away from possibly ramming a belief or philosophy down someone’s throat to actually teaching them things that can be applied critically. Being curious about so many things in one’s daily life. Journeys in general here (actual physical journey’s and journey’s of the mind) are much shorter, and on a somewhat “smaller” scale. What your soul’s mission is based on by sign may feel completely antithetical to how you operate, but usually a catalyst will occur (maybe something along the lines of someone challenging a very strong belief or philosophy of yours) that will force you into growing into your North Node. Take the (what can be) wonderful philosophical quality of this South Node, and move it into North Node territory, while operating out of logic and reason.

North Node in Sagittarius/South Node in Gemini: For you, Sagittarius North Node person, your North Node mission is all about expanding your horizons (both long journey’s of the mind and in the physical), the belief that you have in things, philosophical ideas & the abstract mind, truth, and higher education (of some sort). In a past life (or past lives) with Gemini as your South Node, you were probably more focused on absolute logic and reason, effective communication (both written and verbal), being curious about everything (but not necessarily being a “master” at any one thing), and using the concrete mind. This placement of the South Node in Gemini is definitely a mental one, but on a smaller scale than what your North Node hopes to achieve in this lifetime. While you may be more comfortable dealing with and operating out of your South Node, you’re supposed to evolve into the Sagittarius North Node qualities (while taking the highest qualities of your South Node with you on your mission). Take all the curiousity that you have about a great many things, and apply them to the abstract, to things that you feel that you could believe in, and in seeking for truth (whatever that is for you personally). Take long journeys here and there, move out of your comfort zone and really expand yourself (and your mind) in way that you weren’t able to do in past lives. There may be some kind of hang up with higher education (maybe you didn’t finish university, or maybe you never felt like you were qualified to go), but actually university or some other type of higher education is probably the catalyst that can propel you into moving into your Sagittarius North Node. Another thing that could prove to be the catalyst here is moving away from where you lived most of your life (which you may resist at first), but will ultimate push you into evolving into your North Node mission filled to the brim with expansion.

To flesh out the nodal axis story further (to get the whole picture), you will need to also consider where the planetary ruler of the North and South Nodes fall in the chart by sign, house, and aspects made. In the case of Gemini & Sagittarius, you would be looking at Mercury and Jupiter.
